Is 'The Godfather' a softcore porno the entire book?

Damn.... I had alway heard the book was much trashier than the films, but I didn't know we would get whole chunks of story dedicated to Sonny's hog and how much his 'big down there' mistress loves it so.

I'm 40 mins into the book and it feels like half the story was written for a prudish 1960s housewife who secretly loved smut novels.

Just wondering, is the entire book this way?

No but the ridiculous side story is distracting. movie > book. Try Wise Guy next. Great book and great movie.

I haven't read it in years, but I believe you'll find out about a cavernous vagina later on.

I just don't get why Puzo had such a great core story and strayed on so much with giant vaginas a huge 'organs' as much as he did.

No but it was genius not to include that side plot in the movie. It was dumb and added nothing to the story.

One of the few times the movie was much, much better than the novel. I found the novel to be nothing special. I think the best line in the book was the very last one.

Puzo was simply out to write a best seller, & he believed a best seller had to have a major female character.

Why he didn't go into more detail on Connie or Kay instead of Lucy's physical idiosyncrasies, I don't know.

The movie was almost always much, much better than the novel.

Pretty much the only notable exceptions were the Luca character, & a few plot details which were clearer in the book.

Coppola is much more skilled as a film director than Puzo is as a novelist. The books reads like a very padded Life magazine article, great on detail but not so hot on anything else.

Yes. That what I meant. The entire move was better than the novel. But it’s one of the few movies that were that much better than the source novel.

They did include it although subtly at the wedding when his wife is hand gesturing getting bigger and bigger and then she turns around to show Sonny and he is gone (banging a bridesmaid)

I like the book. The inner dialogue and explanations of what people thought about the various families during the sit down was good. I also liked the opening with the rapists getting beaten, Sonny throwing the con men out of Long Island, and the explanation of how the business had come to be and how the two regimes were split. Plus Kay was more likable, even if her pov chapters were boring.

To be fair, that problem gets fixed later in the book.

Like literally medically fixed. Sorry for the spoiler.

Damn is this the understatement of the century.

I basically gave up on the book because of how much Puzo wrote in circles. Endless and endless fluff of dialogue that amounts to nothing can only be tolerated for so long.

In reality, about 50% of the entire book is totally unneeded it feels like.

As with most books vs. movie, it’s different. They detail the ex cop much more in the book. The book is essentially GF 1 and 2 combined.
