Liked most of the first book...except the characters. Some were good and had depth but others were more like caricatures where they would not grow/learn from experiences/adapt/develop.

It just seems that way with some characters in the first book. Just wait. By the end of book 3 some of the most blah characters from the first are the most "WTF!?!?!?"

I finished the first book. It took forever, but I enjoyed it. I'm assuming the pace picks up the second and third since characters have been established?

Yeah, every book in that series gets better and better IMO, though I know some aren't huge fans of the first stand alone.

Just finished "The Blade Itself"

Loved it. And I agree that Glotka is one of the more interesting and complex characters in recent memory.

I get the feeling that when it's all over he probably won't be the bad guy.

Literally leaving home now to buy the next 2 books.

Well, I’m ashamed at how long this has taken me but I finished books 1 and 2 and am about 100 pages into book 3.

So far, 3 is my favorite. Started strong and hasn’t let up. I’ll be back to spoil everyone when I’m done.

Loved the series. Glokta is none of the best/must complex characters maybe ever.

Still coming to terms with the ending. I liked it but at the same time it left a bit of an empty feeling.

Potential Spoiler:

Baez is a POS and by the end I really wanted him to die a horrible death.
