Just found a hardcover copy of The Hedge Knight graphic novel (the Dabel Bros/ Marvel ed) for $45 at a used book store in Houston...the clerk got red-faced when I brought it to her...told me to wait a moment...argued with some dude behind the counter for a bit, then finally checked me out. I couldn't help but ask WTF? She looked embarrassed and mumbled something about professional courtesy being dead, and that she had never seen that book before...I told her it's a good read, there are two more, etc...she cuts me off and says have a nice day (translation: eat shite and die)turns and resumes ripping poor dude...
Googled it on the way home...I guess she thought it was a 1st ed. or some shite - it goes for about $400.
Does anyone here know more than I do about it? Doesn't appear to be that great of a treasure - nice addition to the collection, but missing the dust jacket even.
Maybe she just needs more moon tea?
The same store had a signed 1st ed Storm for $220. I can't afford a $200 decoration...

I believe it's because Dabel Bros. is defunct. And the print of it you have, if in new condition, is going pretty high. Plus Dynamite comics does GoT now and with that print being Marvel is also the reason for the high price. You got lucky with the $45 price tag because it's going for about $350 at the cheapest on Amazon if in new condition. I also saw one for $35k.

Yeah, I see the cheap prices I glanced were for the kindle...damn...wish it had the DJ- That lowers the value bigtime - even though I really wanted it as part of the collection.
The first ed. AGoT (first print)
$695
Crom!
Wish I had one...

I've been thinking about Jamie's redemption arc and I would like to see it include Jamie/Brienne rescuing Sansa and taking her to Jon Snow 2.0, and then Jamie coming full circle by pledging his life to Jon, Rhaegar's son.
But, of course, since I want this to happen, it definitely will not happen.
One more thought, if Jon were named the true King and he picked a Kingsgaurd, who would it be?
My Picks
-Jamie Lannister, "The Kingslayer": (for completion of hypothetical repemption arc)
-Brienne of Tarth: where Jamie goes, she goes. After all, she is his inspiration to gain back his honor.
-Bryden "Blackfish" Tully: Easily on of the best fighters and men ever. Personally, I saw him and Robb have a similar relationship as Jon and Qhorin. Additionally, I see this being brokered by Sansa Stark, after she may or may not be rescued by Jamie and Brienne or at the least requesting Jamie to have Edmure, his wife, and heir returned to either Riverrun or a place of Blackfish's choosing.
-Loras Tyrell, "The Knight of Flowers": After the fiasco that was Dragonstone, I believe that he is wounded and will heal or was totally safe to begin with and the nature of his wounds were exaggerated to satisfy Cersei. Furthermore, given the crazy bat that Cersei is combined with her attempts to displace Margery, I don't see Loras staying in this regime much longer. Not to mention Loras has always thristed for glory, so that might also motivate him to join Jon and fight the WW.
-Barristan "The Bold" Selmy: assuming that he survives the crossing of the narrow sea and then finds out and believes the truth of Jon's lineage, he will cross over to his side. This also means Dany realizing she isn't the entitled one. How that goes, no one knows.
-Benjen Stark: his uncle, and in this light he is coming back in a big way. My theory is that he has been operating as an agent of Bloodraven and the Children of the Forrest, scouring locations of dragonglass cashes and mines.
-?????
Anyways I put the chance of that happening from corset slim to none.

Down to the last two chapter on my reread of Clash. I've been slow about doing it so as to not burn myself out like I did my first read, but I've got some good notes and I think I have something that I think the theorist might have missed. Maester Marwyn is a warlock. He burns the glass candle just like at the house of Urrathon Night-Walker where the warlocks are gathering their power. He's also, if I'm not mistaken from my first read, the only Maester that has ever lit one. He was also the one who taught Mirri Maz Duur the "ways of the maesters."
Posted on 1/30/14 at 8:21 am to thatguy1892
Plus maesters hate magic and are thought to be behind the extinction of dragons.
Didn't Marwyn know Qyburn too?

He talks about him a one point. From what I've read on the wiki, he also tried to say that prophecies are BS and Aemon was a crazy old frick that could have been king. It also says that he's heading for Dany. I think the Warlocks are the Others creators, and Marwyn is going to try to stop her and the dragons, because dragons basically WMDs for the Others.

Who do you think Marwyn is?
My best guess is he is a Hightower maybe?
Second guess is he is an Umber

Speaking of dragons, how big was Balerion? In AGoT Tyrion said that Balerion's skull was large enough to swallow an aurochs whole, or even a mammoth. Arya described (what I believe to be Balerion's skull) to have teeth that were as long and sharp as long swords (which were 2.75'-3' long.) So long must Balerion have been from snout to tail? From one wing tip to another?
IMO he may have been as long as a football field and a wingspan of twice that size. To feed such an animal it would seem that it would be most efficient to do so through the sea on Krakens, Leviathans, and whales, and by land perhaps long ranging hunts for mammoths and wild aurochs north of the wall and across the narrow sea.
The logistics of maintaining a beast such as Balerion is mind boggling, let alone 2 other very large dragons in Meraxes and Vhaegar. It would further seem to me that the Dragon riders would have to spend a very large amount of time with their dragons to keep them half domesticated, much like the Starks with their Direwolves. And, as of recent events, Dany has spent a year being rather neglectful of them, which would explain their rather wild behavior.

But why on earth would he trust a Tyrell to be on his Kingsgaurd? You know Loras is always going to put glory and power for his family ahead of his Kingsgaurd duties

I think the Tyrells are going to be screwed in the last 2 books. There are more mainhouse Tyrells than mainhouse Lannisters but I have a feeling of doom about them both.

A theory of mine is that Marwyn sent Satin to the Wall as a spy. Here goes..
I did a search for Oldtown Whores and came up with the Prologue to AFFC. It is said that Marwyn consorts with whores in Oldtown. Could he have been the one to send Satin? I visited AFFC:
Sam chewed on the question for a moment, wondering how much he ought to say. The sphinx is the riddle, not the riddler. Could Maester Aemon have meant this Sphinx? It seemed unlikely. "Lord Commander Snow sent him away to save his life," he began, hesitantly. He spoke awkwardly of King Stannis and Melisandre of Asshai, intending to stop at that, but one thing led to another and he found himself speaking of Mance Rayder and his wildlings, king's blood and dragons, and before he knew what was happening, all the rest came spilling out; the wights at the Fist of First Men, the Other on his dead horse, the murder of the Old Bear at Craster's Keep, Gilly and their flight, Whitetree and Small Paul, Coldhands and the ravens, Jon's becoming lord commander, the Blackbird, Dareon, Braavos, the dragons Xhondo saw in Qarth, the Cinnamon Wind and all that Maester Aemon whispered toward the end. He held back only the secrets that he was sworn to keep, about Bran Stark and his companions and the babes Jon Snow had swapped. "Daenerys is the only hope," he concluded. "Aemon said the Citadel must send her a maester at once, to bring her home to Westeros before it is too late."
...
When Sam hesitated, one of those hands grabbed him by the arm and yanked him through the door. The room beyond was large and round. Books and scrolls were everywhere, strewn across the tables and stacked up on the floor in piles four feet high. Faded tapestries and ragged maps covered the stone walls. A fire was burning in the hearth, beneath a copper kettle. Whatever was inside of it smelled burned. Aside from that, the only light came from a tall black candle in the center of the room.
The candle was unpleasantly bright. There was something queer about it. The flame did not flicker, even when Archmaester Marwyn closed the door so hard that papers blew off a nearby table. The light did something strange to colors too. Whites were bright as fresh-fallen snow, yellow shone like gold, reds turned to flame, but the shadows were so black they looked like holes in the world. Sam found himself staring. The candle itself was three feet tall and slender as a sword, ridged and twisted, glittering black. "Is that . . . ?"
". . . obsidian," said the other man in the room, a pale, fleshy, pasty-faced young fellow with round shoulders, soft hands, close-set eyes, and food stains on his robes.
"Call it dragonglass." Archmaester Marwyn glanced at the candle for a moment. "It burns but is not consumed."
"What feeds the flame?" asked Sam.
"What feeds a dragon's fire?" Marwyn seated himself upon a stool. "All Valyrian sorcery was rooted in blood or fire. The sorcerers of the Freehold could see across mountains, seas, and deserts with one of these glass candles. They could enter a man's dreams and give him visions, and speak to one another half a world apart, seated before their candles. Do you think that might be useful, Slayer?"
"We would have no more need of ravens."
"Only after battles." The archmaester peeled a sourleaf off a bale, shoved it in his mouth, and began to chew it. "Tell me all you told our Dornish sphinx. I know much of it and more, but some small parts may have escaped my notice."
So Marwyn is able to see what is happening at the wall. I suppose he could use the candles for this, but does there need to be one at the wall? Did Satin bring it? Has he been corresponding with Marwyn?

I've always thought Satin was a spy, but not sure for who exactly. Some fans also think he is the perfumed seneschal. But what would Marwyn want with Jon Snow is beyond me, unless he was able to see with his candles that he is AAR??

Satin always seemed to be exactly what he said he was to me.

Just a gay whore?
I think something was up with him...he says "my lord" and knows how to write. I think there is more to him than what is presented at face value.
I also think Taena Merryweather was a spy working for either the Tyrells, Martells, or Varys.
