Since George has kept mum about identifying a release date for this book since he received a lot of well-deserved flack for AFFC and ADWD, do y'all think he'll have TWoW out in 2014? or 2015? Later than that, even?

I would enjoy a December 2014 release date; after all winter will have finally arrived.

I just had a wacky thought... is Lady Merryweather one of the Sand Snakes?

Tyene... I think has been away for a long time.

Lady Merryweather has been in Kings Landing since before the Red Viper died.

Taena Merrywether is more of a Skanksnake rather than a Sandsnake.

I think they had talked about one of Oberyn's daughters being in unaccounted for in one of the Hotah chapters in FFC.

Like they said she was out East but nobody really knew.

They say that Merryweather is Myrish, but when she is described she almost sounds Dornish... and she is horny as hell, like a Dornish woman.

I can imagine that David and Dan, and HBO execs are breathing down George's neck to finish. Not gonna lie, but George is kind of an arse when it comes to his fans, or so it seems to me. He only acknowledges them at his nerdy Comic Con deals and book signings. Almost like he hates us all yet we're the ones who made him rich enough to stuff his gut with lemon cakes and Frey pies.

Yep, George has come off as a bit of a dick from time to time, but that's not totally uncommon when comes to many authors. But that makes me appreciate the nice and awesome authors even more.

quote:

I think the posters on the ASOIAF aren't keeping their hopes up, and some of them were the ones who said GRRM only had 300 pages written. Their fans also have less of a sense of humor compared to the TD ASOIAF/GoT fans

One thing to keep in mind with that board is that many of them actually know George personally, so people dogging on him they probably take like someone dogging a relative. I mean, several posters on that site (the BWB dudes and the site runner) were in the dedication by George in the forward of ADWD, so they are gonna naturally be supportive of him.

But anyone who has read the series from the beginning is going to very little hopes to keep up. After all the bullshite I heard from George on release dates with both AFFC and ADWD I'll believe the book is coming out when it's on the damn shelf.

I'd suggest other awesome authors and series to keep you occupied in the meantime.

The one unaccounted for is named Sarella, and she is in Oldtown hanging out with Sam (aka posing as a boy named Alleras with the maesters).

Alleras=Sarella backwards.

The rest of the Sand Snakes that haven't been shown are under the age of 15.

That is also a very large part of George's problem. He is surrounded by sycophants and fans. For the past 11 years tree hasn't been anyone around him to light a fire under his arse. They all just worship the ground he walks on.

Hopefully HBO and the producers of GOT change that

Ashara Dayne very well could be Jon Snow's mother. Or maybe even Lyanna. But that timeline doesn't add up.

We know very little about Benjen. We do know he gave some fatherly advice to Jon Snow before he went off to the Wall. And we suspect he held Winterfell during Roberts Rebellion. But we have no idea why he went to the Wall and joined the night Watch.

I know all signs point to Lyanna and Rhaegar as his father but now that just seems way too obvious and I think since it's been unknown for 5 books now that GRRM will want that to be a huge shock to readers

Well, don't be shy. Weigh in on some of the theories - crackpot and otherwise.

- Jon's parentage
- Jon's present and future state of "aliveness"
- Tyrion's parentage and will Tyrion ride a dragon at some point
- etc.

Oh, and welcome to the waiter's club with the rest of us waiting for the next book to come out.

In an interview, Alfie Allen (actor who plays Theon Greyjoy) said he asked GRRM about Jon Snow's parentage:
"You know, I asked him about who Jon Snow's real parents were, and he told me. I can't say who, but I can tell you that it involves a bit of a Luke Skywalker situation. It will all come to fruition eventually. The whole thing with all the fight over proper succession is partly inspired by the War of the Roses in the late 1400s, and back then, to ensure pedigree, the monarchies were kind of inbred. It's definitely fricked up, but it definitely happened back then, so that's why there's incest with the Targaryen line. It's toned down, though."

Ha, thanks!

My theories:

1) Jon is definitely either the offspring of R + L or someone other than Ned. I've been reading a good portion of this thread and the angle of Benjen possibly being the father is intriguing.

2) Jon ain't dead. You don't spend all these chapters on building up his character just have him go out like that. And yes, I know how GRRM is, but given that....just by reading some of the comments he's made about all of his characters, you can tell he's got something more in store for Jon. But I will say, I was so pissed at the end of ADWD!

3)Tyrion, not sure. I mean I never doubted that he was a Lannister but the more I go back and reflect, it's entirely possible that he could be a targ. Maybe his "pig riding" training will come to fruition.

One thing is for sure. I need to go back and re-read everything - there is way too much to take in on just the first reading.

I think I've read the Alfie Allen quote before & the Luke Skywalker angle intrigues me. Raised by his uncle and aunt like Jon was, and his father the enemy. Rhaegar and the Targs, especially in Robert's mind, were the enemy .

Jon's parents are Lyanna and Rheagar unless GRRM gets pissed that all of his readers figured it out and changed it after reading this thread, ala Throneception.

He's either unconscious, but alive as Jon. Or his body is dead while his consciousness is warged into Ghost awaiting being revived by Mel Thoros style.

Tyrion is his father's son. He is truly Tywin's son and heir to Casterly Rock. I really hope he gets to ride a dragon at some point, but that's just wishful thinking.

Jon Connington will be the one who inevitably, by his own hand or indirectly, will kill Aegon.

The internet will never allow someone to take 20 to 25 years to finish a series without people piecing things like this together, especially with a cult following like ASOIAF has. The only way that theory crafters couldn't put it together would be if the author essentially tells them to go frick themselves and doesn't answer it or just changes stuff as he goes.

Yep, this is my main hope on the series as well. Now he has real deadlines to have to hit with the TV series on his arse.
