the only reason they're backing stannis is because they see him as the biggest threat to the current baratheon/lannister thrown and they just want someone new on the throne that would be beholden to them and pay em back their GD money
Reading that, I just had an image of Stewie from the Family Guy episode where Brian owed him money. Stewie as an Iron Bank collector.
The question about the remaining claimants to the throne got me to thinking - if the church of the seven (can't remember the actual name of the church/religion) were to declare Cersci's children to be the offspring of Jamie and not Robert, who would they support for the throne? I think Stannis has the best claim but I could see the church balking at his dabbling in the religion of the red god and going around with a red priestess.
Now, if he dies or abdicates in favor of Shireen I could see them supporting that. I don't think she's converted to that religion. And the show Shireen seems like she may be able to become a competent ruler. For some reason I always thought the book Shireen may have had mental problems in addition to her physical ailment. I might have gotten that impression because she was always shown hanging around with Patchface though. Who was pretty far out there although he is a pretty accurate prophet.
I don't know if the Faith Militant would support someone like Jon who I think is a follower of the Old Gods.

Yea im interested to see if there will be a battle with the faith militant
to be completely honest, im not sure the faith of the 7 survives the final book if the red god and old gods end up actually doing shite

I was about to mention the religious war that looks like it's about ready to break out between The Lord of Light vs The Seven.
Thanks again Cersei.
Seems like the Tyrells may have the most pull with the Seven and Stannis with The Lord of Light.
The people who worship the old gods seem to be indifferent to the other religions, probably because they don't have leaders/priests fricking everything up.

Maybe Aegon since Septa Lemore has been tutoring him about the Seven

The Lannisters are all but finished IMO, thanks to Cersei and Varys.
The Starks Would love to see them make a move but it seems almost impossible for them to get their shite together in time.
Petyr Baelish Has become a contender through scheming and looks to possibly control much north of Harrenhal. Nothing but tears for Littlefinger in the end IMO.
Stannis Baratheon Does he continue his crusade for the throne no matter what or will he be willing to bend the knee if Melisandre advises him to?
The Targaryens Aegon/Daenerys will obviously be big players in the end, it's hard to see how this is going to shake out.
The Lannisters are done, except for Jaime and Tyrion. Cersei is toast and will die. Not sure about Tommen or Myrcella, but them too . I could also see Jaime potentially dying, but being recognized properly by the public as more than a kingslayer and being at peace with his legacy. I think Tyrion has the best shot of the Lannisters to live through the whole series.
Littlefinger is going to die too, probably at a point when he think he's going to have it all/at his highest point of the series. I think a Stark should kill him...lots of speculation points to either Uncat or Sansa.
As for the Starks, I think Jon, Sansa, Arya, Bran, Rickon need to reunite, but not sure how probable that will be. They all seem to be leading their own lives/paths, still scattered.
I have a feeling Dany will die. Wouldn't it be too predictable for her to get the throne easily? I think would be left annoyed if that happened. And please, no Jon/Dany wedding .

I don't want Jon to die (again).
Could you imagine ILuv's reaction?

Though I could see Jamie dying, I could also see him living. His redemption arc is going pretty strong and he's started using his brain and negotiating now that he doesn't have his right hand. I think that arc may have a bit further to go yet.
And speaking of developments with Jamie in the later books, has this thread hashed out speculation over Briennne's "word" to UnCat and the brotherhood to get her off of the noose? I haven't seen it discussed but I haven't been on here since the very beginning.
I've seen several good theories floating around out there on the internet. But if I had to take shot I think I'd go with something like "Oathbreaker" said to UnCat to remind her that she swore an oath to Brienne not to stop her from seeking revenge on Stannis and I think she also swore an oath to protect Brienne as a lord protects those sworn to him/her.

without a doubt i see this ending with tyrion as lord of casterly rock
and i think jaime either dies a very noble death or joins the Nights Watch
i think its one of those 2

Where do the Drowned God and the Others come in to play? I can't shake the ffeling that the Lord of Light (fire) will come in to play against the Whitewalkers

The white walkers are obviously either manifestations of te great other or followers/servants of the great other.
It is beginning to become apparent that one of the meaning of "a song of ice and fire" is the battle between Rhllor and the great other

Anything outside the old gods of the North, the Lord of Light, and the Seven are small time players in Westeros.
Don't know shite about the others or how they are to be defeated... I look at them like aliens at this point.
What do they want and why?
What is their relationship with the children of the forest and the greenseers?
Posted on 5/1/13 at 10:12 pm to Hugo Stiglitz
I think practically everyone knows my theory on this already but ill state again for those who may not.
In the beginning the children and the others were sole inhabitants of westeros and bitter enemies. They fought endless and countless wars between each other with neither faction gaining the upper hand for any meaningful amount of time (remember time is different for these practically age less beings and a thousand years to them may be what a decade or less is to us)
In the midst of an era that saw the pendulum swing in favor of the children the first men landed on a westeros that the others had been pushed out of. The first men waged war with the children only to fight to a stalemate that was marked with the signing of The Pact on the isle of faces. The signing of this treaty ushered in the Age of Heroes.
Somewhere in the middle of the Age of Heroes two things happened. The Andals arrived and the Others returned. Now it's unclear the order in which these two occurred but one can surmise that the long night occurred pre-andal. Anyway the others were pushed back once again by the children but this time with the help of the first men. And with a coalition of forces they saw the wall built to protect all future generations from the Other threat.
When the Andals came with the iron weapons and armor the first men were pushed north of the neck and te children were forced north of the wall.
So in present day we now have two bitter peoples who have been forced from their homes by foreign invaders and now who once were enemies are allies to retake their home for the sake of survival.
Their even being led by a man who gave his all to the realm and in return was ostracized, thrown in prison and then eventually forced into an "honor guard" to spend the rest of his days with the thieves and rapers.
