Dang. Even the venerable ole Crackpot thread has fallen prey to bickering and sniping.

I cheered when I saw those hands! I love that benjen is coldhands even if just for the show.

Maybe the editor pic is just them screwing with people. Is it typical to post a picture of stuff like that from an editor/publisher?

If anyone read the recap of the Aeron chapter George read in Baltimore it's got a nice connection to a Dany vision in the house of the undying

Nice catch, like you said not a MAJOR reveal, but it's cool to see it confirmed.

I guarantee this one is somewhere in this monster.

Did anyone ever figure out why "Dawn" had a Martell sigil on the show?

Well, that's a lil better...but still cutesy IMO.

I don't remember reading anything about it's description that mentioned a sun design. I've seen fan art with a star, the Dayne sigil, or no bling at all.

Maybe it was a star but technically the sun is a star

From what I have read online, someone went to the archives where it is stored and took the picture and posted it online. It wasn't posted by the editor who wrote it.

Not sure if it's been posted, but Martin officially stated what has been assumed for a long time. Brienne is a descendent of Duncan the Tall.

I didnt see it in theOP, so what are the other options of crackpotting theory's on who cold hands is? People are convinced it's not Benjen, but someone we know, but I haven't seen any other possibilities

Ive always thought it was either Bran the builder or the Night King.

Remember when Bran asks him who he is. "Your monster, Brandon Stark" or something along those lines. You're meant to think that he is just saying Bran's name but I've always thought that he is actually telling him who he is.

There is some more evidence to back up my argument but unfortunately theories are a little rusty. I haven't studied this stuff in a long time. Especially not to the depth that I used to go

One thing is for sure. He is definitely NOT Benjen in the books. I personally think, and honestly hope, that we never see or hear from Benjen again. He went beyond the wall and now he's gone. Just like thousands of rangers before him. Sometimes you don't get answers and that's ok. It adds to the realism of the story.

It is amazing how many theories have been confirmed/dealt with in the first part of this season:

1- Jon's resurrection
2- Bran's "seeing" the TOJ
3- Arya's decision not to be No One
4-Stannis final fate
5- Brienne's ancestry (albeit not revealed through the show)
6- Theon getting back to the I.I.
7- Children of the Forrest creating the White Walkers
8- Futility of Doran's plans
9- Roose's death at Ramsey's hands.
10 - Dany flipping the super Khalasar

But why would Bran the Builder or the Night's King care if anyone saw his face seeing how no one would recognize someone that had been "dead" for hundreds, if not thousands of years? Coldhands not only went out of his way to hide his face from Bran and his group, but also Sam & Gilly. The writing sure made it seem like he was intentionally hiding if face from them.

I think we will either hear from him again, or hear what happened to him at least. Why intentionally make it a mystery what happen to him, when they showed what happened to the others that went ranging with him? Also in the appendix of the book, I believe all of the dead characters have {} around their names, but Benjen doesn't. It just says that he is assumed dead. So I think there has to be a payoff as to what happened to him.

Because sometimes a mystery stays a mystery. I'm not saying with a 100% certainty that we'll never hear from him. I just have a gut feeling and a hope that he's just gone :poof:

I dont have an answer for that. I really dont know. One thing I've thought of but I don't know if even I buy it is:

If The Others just "woke up" in the last 10 years or so then maybe cold hands did too. Maybe he's not so sure exactly how long he has been "dead". Just a thought.

There was definitely some good work done in this thread. All of y'all thought I was batshit crazy for suggesting that the children were in league with/created The Others. Needless to say I got giddy as a schoolgirl when they showed it. Now my girlfriend thinks I'm nuts. Can't be helped really.

Not all of us, Whitebread!

Oh and what about:

Euron traded his dragon egg to the faceless man to kill Balon Greyjoy

Didn't Euron admit this to Aeron Damphair in his preview chapter...at least paying to have him killed...

And:

Many of these I don't think are confirmed, namely 2, 4, 6, 8, and 9.

Bran seeing the Tower of Joy was merely a plot device to show it to the audience.

With 4 I think they simplified the Night's King in it being a separate character from Stannis, and I highly doubt the original Night's King survived his ordeal back in the day.

Theon getting back to the Iron Islands for the Kingsmoot is completely made up. I don't see Stannis letting him go back there, nor do I think Theon would want to go back there.

With Doran, they killed him off because the plot they made up was shite and just decided to kill it.

I also don't think that Ramsay would have the balls to murder his own father in the books and think that will come down to Manderly and Lady Dustin, although I'm sure he'll outlive him and am fairly sure we'll never see Roose again alive in the books. I think the Battle of the Bastards will take place at the Wall and not at Winterfell in the books.
