GIF: Auburn's Last Play Was Set Up Perfectly

Auburn's final play of the BCS Championship Monday night was set up almost perfectly by the players and well designed by coach Gus Malzahn as you can see from the still above. But as we all know, came up short...

Lostlettermen.com breaks it down...
quote:

"Following QB Nick Marshall’s across-the-field lateral to RB Tre Mason, Mason had room up the sidelines for a long run as well as several blockers in front of him. Alas, the Seminoles defenders were able to evade those blocks and force Mason to cut back toward the middle of the field, where he was tackled at the 35-yard line to end the game. (FSU also had men waiting further downfield in case Mason made it that far.)"

That's 65 yards short of another miracle. Oh well, two out of three ain't bad.

Gus Malzahn is scary creative. Auburn isn't going away anytime soon.

We talked about it when it happened and rewound it many times. The linemen didn't even attempt to block anyone. It's like they were thinking to themselves that this will never work. As you pointed out, on tape... it looked to be set up well.

The "blockers" in front of him were just jogging down the field letting people slip right between them without any effort to slow them.
