Boosters Wouldn't Mind If Chip Kelly Left

Chip Kelly basically put Oregon football on the map, but some prominent boosters want him gone. Not because of the NCAA sniffing around their program, but because they would have to deal with him flirting with NFL jobs every offseason. He also doesn’t schmooze with the fanbase, namely, the boosters.
quote:

"A number of substantial Oregon football boosters, many of whom requested anonymity, expressed a widespread annoyance with Kelly. The coach with the highest winning percentage (45-7, 86.5 percent) among BCS conference coaches is at odds with many of those closest to the Oregon program. Although most would agree Kelly is an extraordinary coach, he doesn’t care much for the many other obligations that come with his job.

“Some of the college boosters have gone as far as to say, ‘I hope he does leave so we can get somebody who appreciates the fans,’” says Jack Roberts, a former Oregon labor commissioner and Oregon alumnus.

“As revolutionary as Chip has been on the field with the no-huddle offense, he’s been more revolutionary in how he acts toward social functions,” says an Oregon booster who requested anonymity. The source said the relationship between Kelly and boosters is strained.

“He’s good at talking to people,” says Jack Roberts, “but he’s not a glad-handing guy.”

Dan Dutton, a booster and former walk-on player at Oregon under Rich Brooks, says: “Fundraising and socializing are not his favorite activities.”

"Meh, les and Saban brought the Big Ten style ground and pound to the SEC and it has done really well."

With the exception of Florida under Spurrier, when was the SEC anything but a ground and pound league?

Oregon?? Ha-Ha-Ha!!!

Les Miles turned down his alma-mater (Michigan) TWICE and wouldn't even talk to Arkansas for 5.5 million per season and you think he would leave LSU for Oregon???

LSU has a huge fan base, larger stadium, top notch facilities, and the LSU recruiting base is one of the strongest in the country. LSU plays in the SEC (the best conference in the nation) and LSU bankrolls one of the highest paid assistant staffs in the country.

Forbes ranks LSU as the #4 most valuable College Football program in the nation (highest in SEC). Miles has won 3 SEC West Titles; 2 SEC Titles; played in 2 BCS Title games; and won a National Title in his 8 years at LSU. Miles has a record of 86-20 since coming to LSU 8 years ago which is almost 11 wins per season. What the Hell makes anyone think Miles is willing to leave LSU after all this and considering he just signed a new 7 year deal with LSU worth a BASE of over 4 million per season (with many built in incentives).

Get real.

Les Miles would have to take a pay cut to go to Oregon. Hell, that's a step down from LSU. Oregon has never done anything except lose to the SEC. LOL!!!

"I bet you Les Miles is offered the Oregon job if Kelly leaves" ~MintBerry Crunch

Meh, les and Saban brought the Big Ten style ground and pound to the SEC and it has done really well. I do not see this philosophy translating in The Pac-12'ish,at least not immediately. They could definately benefit from the defensive scheme he would bring.

I agree with Jizzy08', heck hire a management team to schmooze and entertain the wallets with legs and just make an appearance. People who need their a$$ kissed probably don't care who kisses it as long as they get in the party pic.

Haha, be careful what you wish for Oregon. Hope they hire someone after that does a bad job and they'll be able to see how important winning is.

If they want to swap coaches, id be all for it. Mack Brown knows how to coddle to the boosters. i mean look how he STILL has a job and underperforms every damn year.

His obligation is to win football games and to care for his student athletes. As long as he's doing that, I'd tell them to STFU.
