Per ESPN: Backup quarterback Brandon Harris led touchdown drives on each of his seven series, sparking No. 17 LSU to a 63-7 rout of New Mexico State on Saturday night.

In vastly outplaying starter Anthony Jennings, Harris may have made himself a candidate to take over as the Tigers' No. 1 quarterback when LSU (4-1) returns to Southeastern Conference play next Saturday at Auburn.

Harris completed 11 of 14 passes for 178 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for a pair of scores.

Complete Recap
Box Score

Passing: B. Harris - 178 YDS, 3 TD
Rushing: L. Fournette - 18 CAR, 122 YDS, 2 TD
Receiving: M. Dupre - 3 REC, 54 YDS, 1 TD

The Tigers improve to 4-1 (0-1 SEC) and will travel to No. 5 Auburn next week.

This is beginning to look like JJ-JL two. Les hits the locker room and must be threatening the kids to keep that mouth shut about a change at QB. How else would you explain Leonard's, Travin's and Brandon's comments. Sure Brandon should be modest - it's a part of the classy kid that he is BUT for no one to say look at the results of the pay tonight - who do you think should be starting??? Its a logical response. Obviously Les told Cam we're going with Jennings at the beginning and is too f-ing proud to reverse that. You can't freaking say that we've seen growth and its obvious he should be in the lineup against Auburn. I appreciate you not running to Michigan before coach but they'll be looking to fill that same position again. You've already lost the Miss St game. We don't need to lose anymore.

I think it def matters who the QB is against auburn. This team can step up their play when they have hope that they are always in a game. With Harris in at QB LSU will always be in a game this year. We may lose but it will be a game to the end. If Les and the rest of the coaches really honestly look at the film there should be a change at the MLB position. Mills and the rest of the secondary need, NO have to start wrapping up on tackles and if they can't or won't then they should sit the bench!! Adams, Jefferson and mills need to start playing the run better. Our line backers also need to start wrapping up on tackles or sit. Idk what they are teaching but I'm sure it isn't the big hit and quit approach. Hit with your head in their chest while arms engulfing them and drive your legs. Put on some damn honey badger film and say exactly like that!!! Geez that is all it would take for this D to look much diff. IMO

Clearly Harris is the better choice. Unfortunately, it won't matter who starts against Auburn.

And of course Les is going with Jennings at Auburn. Brilliant.
