Advocate article indicates that KPI will also be used to rank teams by the selection committee. KPI rates every team's win and loss on a point scale that factors in the score of the game, its location and strength of opponent, among other factors.
LSU's KPI is currently 21.

A 21 sounds, and is, good. Unfortunately, 9 other SEC teams are still above us. Really hope they don’t cap conferences when clearly SEC teams are at the top of all their metrics.

KPI is a new metric they are using this year.

Yes, I heard them talking about it on one of the broadcasts. And we have a good position at 21. But as we know, there are many SEC teams with better records (and KPIs) than ours. Hoping they don’t set an arbitrary cap on conferences. (And thanks for the link, OP)

Unfortunately, LSU needed help that they didn’t get both last and this weekend. Florida losing the series vs Georgia was one of the things that needed to happen but didn’t. The weekend before as well with Ole Miss and Texas A&M. There were other teams that shite the bed as well.

With that, I don’t think they get in even if they make a little run in the SEC tournament. The losses to Florida and Alabama were the nails in the coffin.

Of course they could win the SEC tournament and get the automatic bid.

Another factor could be their won— loss record after those first 5 series.

The Kyle Peterson Index is a little too favorable and biased toward West Coast teams.

Good post Goose. LSU is also 13 in the ELO rankings. I don’t see how the committee could possibly leave them out. Only way would be if they have a cap on number of SEC teams.

Mark Ethridge the tourney guru for D1 disagrees with you. He looks at this full time.

Biggest gain was run ruling La Tech at home. Biggest negative was Southern loss.

RPI is confusing me this year

UC-Santa Barbara is RPI #10, with 81 SOS, 40 non-conference RPI, and 115 non-con SOS. And they play in the Big West, conference RPI #13.

UC Irvine is ahead of us too. Idk where this love for the Big West is coming from, it’s a trash conference.

LSU may get in, and they may not.

However, every single time I read one of your posts I keep questioning if you are a troll, an a-hole, just plain dumb, or all of the above. Seriously, in my short time here, outside of the politics board, you and damone have to be two of the more special people on this board.

and if they do this that would show what a joke they are. You can't tell me that LSU isn't one of the top 25 or 30 teams in the country, the way they have played the last 5 weeks. They could literally make a Super or the CWS if Hurd or someone else in the pen steps up like last year.

It's happened before, most infamously in 2011. Tigers were 36-20 and 13-17 SEC, and actually had a stronger resume having swept highly regarded Cal St Fullerton early in the season.

The only advantage LSU demonstrates this year is actually making the SEC tourney.

Beat GA and you are in. Simple.

There will be 2 SEC teams minimum at 13 wins after day one of SEC tourney. If LSU loses there will be 3 stuck at 13 wins. SEC getting in 9-10 teams for sure. 11? I don’t know.

So you agree they may not get in? What games mattered most in the current seeding? UF and Bama. One of those gets them up 1 spot and a virtual lock.
Now everything else matters like other conference tournaments, seeding in the SEC and winning or runner-up in the conference tournament.

It isn’t the 13 - 17 record. It is the position in where they ended at 11.

And he’s wrong every year. It’s an opinion. The point is that no matter what happens in the SEC tournament we might get in and we might not. The only thing we can say for sure is that if we get in, the folks who predicted it will say there was no doubt about it, and vice versa.

If LSU wins the SEC tournament, they are quite possibly a 2 seed. 2 wins likely clinches a tournament bid, and some argue we're already in. They do not need to win the tournament, by any means.
