Any Bream fishing reports?

Posted by labguy on 5/3/24 at 4:02 pm
I was wondering if anyone had any bream fishing reports to share? I've been fishing the Lake Verrett area and catching many catfish but can't seem to find any bream to speak of. Has anyone any bream reports to share within an hour drive of BR. Thanks. ...

I’m 68 and been spec fishing all my life and worms in the fish is normal certain times of the year. Once you fry them you’ll never know they are there. I just try not to let my wife see them. ...

re: Do y'all devein shrimp?

Posted by labguy on 4/7/24 at 7:21 pm
I definitely devein shrimp when cooking with them. Only time I don’t is when boiling or barbecuing them. I would not serve a shrimp dish if they weren’t deveined. Wouldn’t eat them in my house. ...

Fresh Crawfish Tails

Posted by labguy on 3/30/24 at 11:04 am
Just returned from Calandro's and they had fresh not frozen Louisiana crawfish tails. First ones I have seen this season. Not the frozen ones from last season selling for $9.99 lb at the grocery stores but this years fresh tails. Kind of pricey at $19.99 lb but Calandro's are always a little on the ...
I’m not getting crawfish on Good Friday. I love crawfish as much as anyone but refuse to pay these prices. Maybe if the prices come down next month when the spillway crawfish come in I’ll get a sack. At this price they can keep them. I’ll have boiled shrimp. Shrimp are about the only seafood where p...
I was at Walmart on Burbank a few weeks ago and an elderly black gentleman approached me and he had a few items in his hands. It was bread and lunch meat and a couple other things and said he was hungry and didn’t have enough money to pay for his food and could I spare a few bucks to help pay for it...
I wouldn’t start before 9:00am on the weekend. 7:00am is definitely too early imho. ...
If you find any let me know. I haven’t seen any fresh tails out yet. All the ones the grocery stores are selling are frozen from last season. No telling how much fresh tails would cost right now if you could even find them. ...

re: Gulf Shores - Sushi tray options

I love good sushi but not grocery store sushi so much. I would drive to Joe Patti’s in Pensacola buy some Royal Reds and get them to steam them for you. Some melted butter and you’re in for a real treat. They will prepare to whatever level of spice you prefer. I get spicy. ...

How true. I was telling my wife this recently. Teams used to have a local feel with some out of state players mixed in. Not so anymore. But I guess that’s the price of success. We like to win so we shouldn’t complain. Just not into it quite as much. But I’ll adjust especially if we keep winning. ...

re: Weed and Feed Fertilizers

Like the others have said I’ve never found weed & feed to be effective at killing weeds. Just seems to feed them. I spray Trimec, Weed B Gone or Weed Free Zone and follow up with broadcasting Atrazine a few days later. Very effective. Trimec type herbicides contain 2,4-D dicamba and mecoprop. Wait a...

re: Cutworm Prevention

Yes I have hornworms almost every year but I deal with them quickly before much damage is done. With cutworms when you find out you have a problem the damage is done. Plant is on the ground and you have to replant. ...

Cutworm Prevention

Posted by labguy on 3/7/24 at 10:37 am
I have been growing tomatoes for the past 20 years in my raised beds. Last year for the first time I had an issue with cutworms. I'd never seen one in 20 years. I wonder if I am more likely to have the problem again this year? Last year I treated with bifenthrin 0.1% and it did the job eliminating t...
