I've replaced mine twice in the past couple years. Both times someone (probably drunk) ran it over late at night. Neither person came to tell me.
From what I have gathered, the postal service wants mailboxes to be made of a material that easily gives way when hit. It might be the law in some area...

Had this happen to me other day. I pulled up to drive-thru and the kid on the speaker said "Can you hold?" I said yes. As I was holding a dude pulled up behind me. I could see in my mirror he was getting pissed about the wait and thought it was my fault.
About 3 minutes later the dude hit reverse...
