I've found the PSA 308s to be crazy accurate even without considering the price point. Two different factory PSA rifles I sighted in for friends grouped 3/4" with factory ammo - Federal Fusion and Remington Core Lokt. The fitment and quality control on them is definitely in line with the price point...
This, is classified as A2L which means it's mildly flammable and you can't use your old A-coil since it's not listed as compatible with A2L. You'd have to change the A-coil if you want to use the new refrigerant with a new outdoor unit (R454).
This is exactly the info I was looking...
But the EPA is still holding to the date.
 They always have the consumers' best interest at heart. Just look at their regulations on power plant emissions that they didn't budge on despite being warned by grid operators that it will lead to premature closures and rolling black...
I would think it may also depend on how they ran the underground feeder to it. I guess at worst the feeder can just be abandoned in place but I think to move a transformer to a new pad it would require re-trenching for a cable....
No it's not. R454B is a mixture of R32 and R1234YF. No propane in this mix. Some manufacturers are going with R32 but most are going with R454B.
Thanks for the clarification. My HVAC buddy said the switch to R454B was coming but I thought this mix had propane in it. Guess I was w...
The new freon is not 410. That's old. Pretty sure it's being phased out and they will stop making it in January
Correct. The new refrigerant will be 454B and its propane-based. EDIT: This is incorrect....
You have to be selective with loading the generator. I turn off all my breakers except for AC and Air handler. I also turn my air handler fan “on” first (instead of “auto”) so that its not trying to start at the same time as my compressor. Once running knock the air down low so that it wont c...
Great info, bapple! I was hoping someone would take the time to lay it all out that way.
Davis, your Honda generator is likely an inverter generator, which uses far less fuel than one that is non-inverter…and that is a huge deal when you are dealing with a hurric...
Really appreciate this bapple. I have my electrician coming today to see what we need to do to upgrade me to a 50 AMP.
 Smart choice. A fellow poster was able to run a 5 ton unit with a 10kW portable so if you step up to that size range and add a soft starter to your com...

If going by the nameplate pictured, you'll pull around 21A with the compressor and fan running which translates to a little above 5000W. So that's about 72% loaded on your generator but still should run fine. If you run a Micro Air soft starter, you can expect to reduce the locked-rotor amps by a...
Why is that? Isn't that what all whole home generators do?
Backfeeding implies that you are powering the panel through one of the branch circuit breakers. So the risk is back feeding the utility, as someone posted above me. The way to meet code and avoid that is to install an inter...
easily ran everything except central AC
I know I've shared this before but if your HVAC isn't overly large, you can run this with a soft starter. One poster even managed to run his 5 ton unit with a 10kW Firman generator. [link=(https://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/home-and-garde...

As others have mentioned, a generator is a better investment. The solar will definitely not be there when you really need it....
excellent post. i’m looking to have this done myself. similar sized generator for my house. will run everything except my AC.
Most central air units can run on a portable generator if you utilize a soft starter to reduce the inrush current. I did a writeup on this a while ago (li...
10K all in
Very good price. Mine was around $12-13k back in 2021 but we had to run 100 feet of flex gas piping through my attic and that added about $1k. Worth it to be farther away from my bedrooms though....
Running a large load in hot conditions is a problem but the "let them cool down for a few hours" is bs
Yea I'm not sure where this started but I know to check oil level it's generally recommended to turn them off and let them cool for like 15 minutes. Like you said, no need for 1-2...
Renewables should be used to fill the gaps, but unfortunately we are not in a position to replace fossil fuels completely.
The biggest problem with intermittent systems is that they require an equally-sized redundant backup system, usually utilizing natural gas. Check around with some HVAC companies if you want a one-stop shop since most of them offer full installation. Another option if you want a specific brand is to buy the genset directly and pay an installer to do the rest. For brand choice, I'd suggest Generac since they are the most common and pre...
Dude even took the shrouds off it so it'll run cooler (not a good idea).
The enclosure and pusher fan are purposely designed to circulate enough air through it. Tell your neighbor there is no need for that and if he wants more airflow to stick a box fan on the intake side....
