I will enhance my post above by saying this: the rule does not ever specify the center of second base.
If it was intended for a runner to slide specifically to the center part of second base in order to be clear of any interference, the rule would call that out specifically.

The rule says in a direct line between the bases. That line could be at the center Oh second base, the left third of second base or the right third of second base.
The rule is talking about the base running and not deviating from the line you established between the bases....
