re: Made a trip to Hopedale long rocks
Posted by jgthunt on 5/30/24 at 3:10 pm
We fished it last weekend. Water was dirty and wind was howling. Ended up catching 20 or so fish. Lot of 12" trout but we did catch some solid 16-18" fish. Sheepshead as always saved the trip. Cleanest water was in Lake Borgne. Found a few reds and flounder. Overall tough trip, but we got some greas...

re: Buying gun at Bass Pro
Posted by jgthunt on 5/19/24 at 8:36 pm
I ordered a shotgun from Bass Pro online and had it shipped to Denham last spring. It was the worst gun buying experience of my life. I sat there for close to an hour waiting on them to do all of their checks after I had already been cleared. Never again. It took them almost 20 minutes to even find ...
re: Shell Beach boat slip rental

Kinda what I figured. I reached out to the owner of the camp, waiting to hear back. We are close to Campos so I'll give them a call too. ...
Shell Beach boat slip rental
Posted by jgthunt on 5/7/24 at 10:06 am
Is it a thing to rent a slip for a weekend? We got a camp for my son's birthday memorial day weekend and I know the launches will be a cluster. Wanted to leave the boat in if possible. Haven't fished down there in several years since I sold my boat. ...

For ribs and chicken, you can't beat a Pit Barrel Cooker. I love mine. Weber Kettle is a solid choice as well. ...

Tires for mule pro fxt recs
Posted by jgthunt on 4/26/24 at 1:15 pm
Bought a gently used Mule Pro FXT Ranch about a year ago. It came with Outback Max tires, but I'm looking for something maybe a little less aggressive. Lot of trail/pavement riding with some mud at the hunting camp. ...
re: Anyone here ever fish Cabo?
Posted by jgthunt on 4/25/24 at 9:59 pm
Didn't realize they sold it. Haven't looked at their prices in a while. I enjoyed drinking beer with them at the dock while our fish were being cleaned. ...

Fished with Redrum several years ago. They run a quality outfit. Owners are from Texas. Would book with them again in a heartbeat. ...

re: Got my first wingbone calls
Posted by jgthunt on 3/26/24 at 3:09 pm
I have one that my uncle made back in 1986. He died a few years ago, so it's more of a keepsake for me. I can't get it to sound anything remotely like a turkey. He used to say it was one of his favorites and always wore it around his neck hunting. Maybe I just suck at it. ...

re: Shot a turkey this morning, best way to cook?
Posted by jgthunt on 3/20/24 at 3:52 pm
Last time I posted this recipe I got blasted with down votes, but we personally love it.
I marinate cut up breast chunks in some ranch dressing and jalapeños with juice then use a Louisiana chicken fry pack and fry them. I keep thighs and legs a and slow cook them and make tacos. ...
re: My bow has sat for 5 yrs. What to do to use?
Posted by jgthunt on 3/13/24 at 9:22 pm
Personally, I'd probably just start shooting it again. I know I've shot bows with strings worse off than that. ...
