re: NCAA Baseball Tourney Discussion Thread: Arizona Eliminated / LSU to Loser's Bracket
Looks like Vandy should’ve been left out after all. About to go 0-2 down 9-5 to High Point in elimination game
It looks like they tried to pitch off in this game and it’s not working so far. That’s not necessarily proof they didn’t deserve a tournament spot, especially considering ...
Who? Larson, who has been struggling, or Milam, who is raking from his current spot
Milan has two walk off HR in a week. Do you really think his mental state is so fragile he can’t perform in the 4 hole?...
The competition in softball isn’t where it is in baseball for damn sure.
All 13 SEC teams made the NCAA tournament and 7 of the 16 Super Regional teams were from the SEC. The conference is stronger in baseball, but there are few other sports where the conference is as strong as it...
I was also happy to see Florida beat Oklahoma State.
Followed up by an 8-0 run-rule loss to Stanford. Their season ended much the same as LSU’s. They just benefited from a weak Super Regional opponent. Still people will be clamoring to hire Kenny G and using the way LSU lost as pro...
I said earlier in the year, the sec isn’t that great this year. I’m not exactly being proven wrong so far.
I know a few teams had to stage comebacks to win, but the SEC is now 7-1. The real weakness is being shown by non-SEC/ACC teams. 1 and 2-seeds from other conferences are 0-5....
re: Why would a depth limited team like LSU start an ACE against a lower seeded team?
Posted by MikeTheTiger71 on 5/31/24 at 1:46 pm
Well, I am certainly glad Johnson went with Jump today. It was always about the percentages. I expected LSU to put up more than 4 runs today. They didn’t, but Jump gave them enough to get it done. I’m still not at all thrilled with the prospect of having to beat UNC at least once with the pen, but i...
What did their pitchers do on Sunday? Did they give up runs too or throw shutouts?
They scored 11.2 R/G and gave up 5.3 R/G on Sundays in conference play scoring less than 9 only twice and giving up more than 7 only once. ...
Well you're entitled to your opinion but I couldn't disagree more. Jay would be roundly criticized for that and would deserve every bit of it. That is in no way giving your team the best chance to win anything. And above all, it shows how little confidence you have in them. Of course this...
We would then play UNC with Holman. And if we win that one, we would play UNC in their game 4 but our game 3, with a lot of the bullets left that you think we should waste in game 1.
I understand the logic of not wanting to risk falling into the losers’ bracket because they don’t ...
You'd really be OK with going 0-2 and not pitching either of your top 2 starters? Try explaining that to your team after the weekend.
Yes, I would. If they go 0-2, they weren’t going to win the Regional anyway. If anything, it would demonstrate just how slim their chances of makin...
That's where your thread is flawed. This is the post season, we aren't rationing out shite. You use what's necessary to win the game you are playing.
That’s not at all what I was suggesting. They have enough arms they can trust not to have to burn multiple pitchers in Game 1. If gu...
re: College of Charleston coach talking about being snubbed ( lsu talked about in article )
Posted by MikeTheTiger71 on 5/30/24 at 12:03 am
He would have had a much stronger argument if he hadn’t let his bitterness at getting let go by SC get the better of him. Charleston has a good case relative to teams like Kansas St and Georgia Tech with losing conference records and a worse RPI or James Madison who finished 4th in an only slightly ...
That puts us in decent shape against them for our 3rd game, and then (relative to them) in better shape game 4 if necessary.
That’s looking only at the pitching side of the equation. LSU might have comparable or slightly better pitching available in that scenario, but UNC has shown...
So in your mind it's better to go Ack -3, Herring -3 some combination of Guidry, Ullola, Little the remaining 3 in game 1, over Jump giving you 6-7 and maybe having a big enough lead to save some arms going into Saturday and Sunday?
No, that combination isn’t necessarily better. T...
You can’t potentially go home 0-2 without one of these 2 pitchers starting a game. This will not even be a consideration, especially when you consider Jay started Skenes against a 4 seed last season.
I agree that it’s very likely Jump pitches Game 1. I also agree there would be at...
