Yeah, I'm seeing one thing where people use a gel stain that is good on previously painted surfaces. I've got at least 8 beams that are already painted so I just need to find the time to strip the paint....

Again, sorry if this sounds like a really dumb question. We've got some standing support beams in front of our house that are painted white and I'd like to have them stained. Am i able to stain the wood with standard oil-based stain or am I going to have to strip the paint and do it that way? ...
