re: The nation's 2nd largest fly-in neighborhood is in Granbury, TX
Posted by billjamin on 6/1/24 at 7:15 pm
We actually have a run way at the ranch. My wife’s uncle was the air traffic controller at Sweetwater and also a stunt pilot. He installed a runway and has it registered so he could fly to work every day. It had a double electric fence on it to keep the cows from parking on it and him not being able...
re: How important is location for a data center?
Posted by billjamin on 6/1/24 at 6:11 pm
Power and fiber aren’t cheap to run. A data center will usually need a storm hardened local grid and that’s ~2M per mile to run. ...

re: Toyota issues recall, stop sale on 100,000 Tundra pickup trucks due to engine failures
Posted by billjamin on 5/31/24 at 3:16 pm
The number 1 factor that I hear most guys talk about in an engine is reliability.
There’s a lot of bias in most people’s opinions. When you look at fleet data, vehicles have been getting more reliable over time. That’s even with trucks that are far more capable than their predecessor...
How is it a manufacturing defect involving debris if it impacts engines from multiple plants? It’s possible but it’s very unlikely.
Probably a process failure with cleaning the blocks. Navistar had a similar issue with the sand in their cast blocks in the 6.0s....
