Ok baws, I'm looking for a pistol to keep in my car. Grew up with revolvers but doesn't have to be one. Looking for something reliable, easy to conceal, and would like to stay under say $500. A buddy was singing the praises of the Dagger from Palmetto State Armory. Thanks.

I can hear the board’s eyes roll f I dip into another thread and say something about a dagger.

But the Compact Dagger can be bought for under $300 on a special.

Its design is time tested as a g19 gen 3 clone.

But their manufacturing is not AS time tested. The trigger pin has an issue. But that’s hammered out by now.

However, it’s less of a concern if it’s stolen. Its $275.

It's dumb to leave a gun in your car to be stolen no matter what you pay for it.

I think the more important questions are:
1. What’s your access plan
2. What’s the plan to for retaining possession.

Absolutely.

If you’re strapped for cash, you should get a cheaper gun so you can afford to put a more secure lock box in there to keep it in. It’s still not the best idea, depending on where you usually park, but it’s better than nothing.

ETA: Console vault and lock’er down have good options for storage. If it were me, I’d get a full size S&W M&P9 but if you want to conceal it from time to time, the compact will work. You can find them in your price range.

My concern on a stolen gun has way less to do with me losing the money I spent on the gun and more to do with putting a gun in the hands of a shitbag thief. I personally feel if you leave your gun in the car, you need something more than your glove box/console. I guess I've just known too many people get windows busted and pistols stolen in parking garages.

So if your spending money on the gun, spend a little more and get something like a console safe. Even then I only leave my gun there when I'm somewhere I'm not allowed to carry.

I do understand that.

But let’s be real.

Any time someone says truck gun, they mean a gun that you’ll inevitably leave in the truck for the bank.

If you are going to keep your gun in your car at least get a console vault.

My dad has a Smith Model 15-3 stolen out of his Truck in 1984. He reported it stolen. About 6 years later it was used in a homicide. His buddy was the local detective working the case. After the trial he gave it back to my dad. I have it in my safe. It was in pretty good condition for being on the street for 6 years.

CZ regularly has some of their polymer models (P10) at $300 as well. I own a P07 and a P01 Omega and would feel confident in any of the other models including the P09 or P10.

That being said, dont leave it in your vehicle.

You shouldn't keep a handgun in your vehicle. You would be better off if you carried the handgun and only left it in your vehicle when entering a place where it is lawfully prohibited.

Sorry guys let me clarify, when I said for my car it won't stay in the car all the time. It would be in the house at night and on me but in the car when I'm somewhere I can't take it. For instance they aren't allowed in my office. Sorry for any confusion

So you never leave anything of value in a locked and secured vehicle? I guess you don't leave anything of value in a locked and secured house either?

I'm pretty sure that Nashville, Tenn now has a law that the owner can be fined if a handgun is stolen out of their car?

That's what I have in my f150. A prepared thief can get into it with a pry bar and a little time. But an opportunistic smash and grab will have some major difficulty.

With LA passing the constitutional carry law, I recently bought a Glock 43x to do what you’re talking about doing. I paid $525 plus tax at my local store. You could save a little money on gunbroker though. I’m just impatient.
I love the gun so far. It’s perfect for slipping in and out of my waistband when getting in and out of my truck, it conceals nicely even with a red dot and light on it, and shield arms makes 15rd mags for it if you want more capacity than the stock 10rds.
I’ll definitely be looking into the truck vaults though because I like to keep my 10mm 1911 in my truck too incase I run into a situation where I need a ~little~ more fire power
