Does anyone know anyone who fishes out of LA on a Bertram 31? Seen them all over the place in Costa Rica and I know Tropic Star has a big fleet. Looking for a canyon runner that is comfortable enough for 4 guys to fish on and have heard great things with proper power and electronic package.

Lot of older boats on the market that need a refurbish and I love the way they look .

We used to have one. Gas engines. It caught fish and was comfortable, but it was slow and we always had to pack extra fuel when we made those canyon runs.

We had one in the 70's I wish we still had. I am told you want to find one that the wooden stringers have been replaced with aluminum. I have thought about finding one to put outboards on like a buddy did with his 25.

My grandfather’s friend had one that had been modified to an express style with center console and cabin access through the fwd cockpit combing had nice seating around console as well. That thing would scoot with the John Deere diesels.

the old Moppie. Before all the huge fast center consoles, the Bertram 31 was the boat to have.

Someone on Hull Truth said it has probably caught more billfish than any other boat ever made.

The old sea slugs. great boat though. Ran one from Ft. Lauderdale back to Venice one summer.

Restoring one could get costly but would be beautiful. Lots of pictures of them online.

I just fished out of one of these in Costa Rica about 3 weeks ago. It was a smooth ride and had plenty of room for the 5 of us fishing.

This or 32 Blackfins. Moppies are nimble and quick when fighting a fish as good as any of them, but they are real slow. At least the ones I've seen. I think the Blackfin is a little quicker if rigged right.

If I were staying under 40, an express would be my option. Don't really care for them, but you get more room for passengers to be involved.

Bertram 42 is my favorite under 50 foot boat, tanks with good space.

These boats have a cult following. They are beautiful iconic boats. I would love to have one.

My boss and his dad are redoing a 28 right now. They are about to start putting all new electronics, wire, steering, etc. They already put new engines.

I had a look at an old 26 to redo after the hurricane. Owner wanted to add twin outboards to her and had already demo'd old diesel engine area. Would have been a comfy snapper chaser out of Cameron.

Legend has it that some of them are the best fish raising hulls ever built...the hull signature has won many, many bill fishing tournaments.....many will argue that the fish raising characteristics are over stated but I like the idea of one boat simply outperforming any and all comers. Many will also argue that fish raising isn't real...frick them, its real if you believe just like Santa Clause....

Fished and dove off a cpl over the yrs. Comfy roomy but as others have pointed out they are slow. Also w gassers they drink fuel at an amazing rate and not in a good way. Cool old hulls but i think there are better, faster and more efficient hulls now.
