I've owned my own business and I'm now in the c suite of a pretty large corporation. I will give you my best advice, based on years of worrying about work at night.

1. Make a list each day of the things that tend to worry you at night and work through that list daily. T

2. Problems and worry are always going to be there. Accept it and know that you can deal with it. "You have power over your mind - not outside events. Realize this and you will find strength." - Marcus Aurelius

3. Jerk off and go back to sleep.

If you want to go to sleep at 10, take a gummy at 8. Start with 1/2 or even 1/4.

Baw first of all you have come to the right place. My advice just wear sleeves when dropping the fries and unplug the frosty machine at 8 pm so you don't get any late night frosty orders after you already cleaned it. Rest easy my friend and you are welcome

I honestly thought everyone was like this. I just assumed it was part of being an adult. I’ve dealt with this for 20 years.

Get a nice looking Italian therapist and a young Russian side piece. Maybe a little Prozac.

Should be good to go.

I went through the exact same thing a year or so ago when I had taken on some extra responsibility at work and the project wasn’t going well.

That experience has made me not want to progress any further than I am. The money would be nice, but it would kill me.

It kinda goes in waves but every now and again, I’ll find myself in situations where I can’t stop thinking about work. Almost to an obsession. Usually it’s coupled with insomnia and stress, in particular about something I may have missed or forgotten to do. 99.9% it has little to no outcome on how a project will turn out, but any mistakes and I just wear the shite until it grates on me. I know it’s unhealthy and damaging. How do I keep from “bringing work home” short of a career change? It really sucks sometimes and I get these morose vibes that it’s taking years off my life.

It doesn’t affect my ability to fall asleep but it is almost always the reason I wake up at 3:15am, coupled with tossing and turning until the alarm goes off at 5:30. Overall the company is very successful and I’m a key factor in that. But I’m always one to just laser in on the cons rather than the pros.

Anybody else ever felt like that, who may have some pointers on how to manage it?

It goes with the territory if you are a conscientious person who has some responsibility. Most people go through periods of it. What's really fun is lying in bed at night wondering what some knucklehead is up to in one of your company vehicles when you own the business.

My god, yes. I work in Finance and own a divisional P&L for a publicly traded company. The feeling of responsibility for hitting numbers I don’t directly control and knowing that enough misses will translate into job cuts is enough to stress me out 24/7. I have a working wife and have two toddlers on top of that.

Trying to balance it all is enough to break a man. I try to talk through it wife my wife but she doesn’t understand.

The one thing I’ve noticed in my professional career…whether it was right out of college or in my current role today… is I gravitate towards roles with more and more responsibility but hate it once I am there in that role. I do it to myself.

Let me know if you find a solution, ha!

I carry a spiral notebook everywhere. Field, meetings, phone conversations ....everything noted and written down. As things get done, they get checked off ...before I leave the office ......every item is checked or completed. When that book closes for the night, I am not worried about anything ....at all.

I am number three in the plant. The only ones ahead of me is the President and National Sales VP......

It might help you to realize that- unless you own ur own business- most companies dont give a damn about you and would cut or shed you without a second thought if it meant saving one dollar on the bottom line.. To most companies, you are just a number , and loyalty from most companies to most employees is a figment of ur imagination.. So just do your best and leave it at that .

This goes without saying...most employers could care less about their employees and I for one could care less for any employer. I do, however, care about having to look at the face in the mirror I shave every day...so I always do as much as I can with the idea being I do not give a flying frick what an employer thinks but I do care what I think about myself. I have drug up, been run off and lost all manner of jobs in all kinds of ways but never once in 44 years of working for a living have I ever had an employer who could say my work product was anything less than stellar...because I care what I think about myself.

I lie in bed at night thinking about what I need to do tomorrow when I am going duck hunting or fishing the next day. If I have yard work to do I do the same thing. For me it has nothing at all to do with the situation, it is part of my mental makeup.

I owned a small business for nearly 14 years with 25 employees all the time and up to 300 depending on what our work load was. I started that business with $0. I had been laid off and was fed up with other people's whims impacting my life. Best thing I ever did...but it was 24-7-365. Stress ain't what the boss thinks or might say tomorrow or next week, stress is having a $400K weekly payroll due on Thursday noon and having $25K in the bank at COB Tuesday. Stress is not collecting any money at all for 90-120 days and floating a couple of million a month in payroll and bills by robbing Peter to pay Paul. Once you have weathered a storm like that a couple of times the worst thing that can happen to you that you can't control when working for someone else is you lose your job. Been there and done that enough times to know it always works out and most often for the better. Perspective is important...at the end of the day if you ain't laid up in the front window of your towns funeral home in your best suit of clothes you are fricking winning and to hell with everything else....

I struggle with this a lot too and it actually doesn't matter but still go through this. I know my problem is not work but my personality where I don't like bad remark..

These are things I follow:
1) Take a meltonin
2) Put phone on do not disturb from 6PM-8AM

It helps a bit but not perfect. I make good money but it really doesn't matter if I don't live to enjoy it. Hope my family will atleast

I don't think about it in the middle of the night, but I definitely start thinking about it early in the morning around 5am and can't go back to sleep

It is the idea of being content and happy is what I want to achieve. I find people with nothing happy since they live in the moment and they are not worried about chasing things.

If we can find content with ourself, it will lead to better life.

My first time in management was like that. The owner of the company had to finally force me to take a vacation because I never wanted to take time off (too worried things were going to go to crap without at least semi-constant supervision). Even on vacation I called every day to find out how things were running. It was a very dumbass thing for me to do.

That was a loooooooooong time ago. At some point I realized that not only was I micro-managing but that if things fell apart simply because I wasn't there then I failed as a manager (by not training my people well enough and/or hiring good enough employees). Reality check: I realized I was being a dumbass by torturing myself over this.

Part of my purposeful move in scaling back on that was to put myself into the mindset of my job not following me out the door at the end of the day. What that means is that when I found myself obsessing, I purposely forced myself to think of something else. It takes a while, but you can train yourself to do this. For me, it started with the following phrase to myself: stop being a dumbass.

The next part was to determine what things were and weren't worth being constantly concerned about during my off-hours. Most things ended up not being worth it so it eventually boiled down to emergency vs. non-emergency. An emergency arising is one thing, but how many things you're currently fretting over are actually an emergency (ie: if you don't fret over them or handle them now, then the whole business fails, you lose your job, etc)? Does worrying about it at home fix it in any way, shape or form? If the answer is none and no, then you are simply wasting your time and energy for no reason other than to engage in self-induced stress-porn.

You aren't getting paid any extra for putting this burden on yourself and needlessly carrying that burden isn't helping you at all (quite the opposite). So... take that first step and stop being a dumbass.

This use to happen to me every night. Worrying about something I may have forgotten to do or something coming up the next day.

Moved to a much less stressful department within the same company. Doesn't happen anymore. Well, rarely.
