re: What is the acceptable amount to spend at Buc-ee’s?
Posted by RickAstley on 5/13/24 at 2:27 pm
There's a spending formula, we'll call it the Buc-ee's Multiplier (BM), that accurately captures my spend every single time. It goes likes this: If I am in the store for 10 minutes or less, I'll spend roughly a $1 a minute while I am in there. Once I've been in there longer than 10 minutes, my spen...

re: How hard is the jump from one child to two?
Posted by RickAstley on 5/2/24 at 9:20 am
My first two kids are less than 2-years apart. The jump from 1 to 2 has been hard, but I'd say the transition is somewhat easier than going from 0 to 1. I think the transition will be harder on your first child because they will no longer be the center of attention all the time. The biggest factors ...
re: Opening new personal credit card for rewards purposes. Which one’s right for me?
Posted by RickAstley on 4/29/24 at 9:06 pm
For personal expenses I mostly juggle between Chase Freedom, Chase Freedom Unlimited and Chase Sapphire Reserve. Whichever card offers the best point earnings on a purchase is the one I will use. I end up rolling all the points to Chase Sapphire Reserve for travel redemption. There are some circumst...

I pasted my original post into Copilot:

Your business idea of rehabilitating blighted land back to its natural state is not only environmentally beneficial but can also be financially viable. The concept aligns with the growing demand for sustainable practic...
You said restore to a natural state. What do you mean?
The location to me would drive the type of restoration work. If the location was in an area where redevelopment was likely, the main effort would be property cleanup and property turn over. If redevelopment is not likely in the...
These aren't really money-making projects though. This program is designed to work with municipalities, tribes and non-profits to revitalize brownfields. Lots of good information on how it all works, steps needed, etc but it's not going to talk about how to turn a profit because that isn't th...
Admirable goal, but who is going to pay to do this? Maybe I'm missing something, but that was my first thought.
I really don't have a clue. I'm looking for some thoughts here. I know blight removal has been funded by some local governments, but I don't know the landscape well at al...
MT Shark Tank - Undeveloping Commercial/Residential Properties
Posted by RickAstley on 4/28/24 at 8:57 pm
This thread is somewhat the opposite of Mariner's [link=(https://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/money/developing-commercial-properties/113179292/)]Developing commercial properties[/link] thread from earlier.
I’m looking for some business advice around the idea of taking blight and rehabbing it back ...
re: Utahns reunited with pet cat they accidentally shipped with Amazon return
Posted by RickAstley on 4/25/24 at 2:33 pm
My wife and I went out of town one weekend. When we got back, as I was pulling into the driveway and opening the garage door, a cat shot out of the garage. One of my neighbor's cats was hanging out in there before we left. When were leaving for the weekend and shut the garage door, the cat got stuck...

Groaning more with age
Posted by RickAstley on 4/8/24 at 11:32 am
Does anyone find themselves making groaning noises more when doing anything strenuous or simple things like bending down as they get older? My 1.5 year-old groaned/grunted when she crouched down earlier mimicking me. Made me realize I groan a lot when doing just about anything. Opening a jar, crouch...

re: If I start investing would it be better to dump a bunch of money all at once
Posted by RickAstley on 4/1/24 at 8:41 am
Better to dump a large sum in on the front-end. Since you are just starting with investing, then investing in increments might not be a bad thing to do as you learn more about what you're investing in. It helped me early on to invest smaller amounts to break the ice and settle my nerves. There's eno...
re: Anybody else using their HSA as a retirement vehicle?
Posted by RickAstley on 4/1/24 at 8:31 am
I have had an HSA for several years, but didn't learn about using it for retirement purposes until after having kids. I struggle enough as it is to stay organized now-a-days. I just spend my HSA on medical expenses as they come up instead of going through the trouble of logging the receipts and reim...

When I used to live in a metro area that had several Home Depots and Walmarts, I would buy clearance items and sell on ebay. Had a lot of help from members on this board with getting proficient at it. Made great pocket change at the time. Now with kids and being 100 miles from the nearest Home Depot...

It would resonate with me if it really meant 100% American made.
