You really only need a leader if the water is clear. And in clear water, you absolutely need one. Id do Fluorocarbon but that is. me
The best line to line knot is the FG knot and its not even close

Flew out there to see Brit Floyd in 2016 and back in 2018
Was absolutely amazing. Stayed in the area for 5 days each time to do some sightseeing. One of my favorite trips in the US
