So the umpire can see the base as the runners foot touches it. A flat plate is usually being slid into on close plays. That’s not how it works at first base. ...

Coleman has a 4.84 era which is lower than Ackenhausen and Little. Hurd has a 6.49 era and has given up more hits than innings pitched. Coleman’s problem has been walking people. He gives up too many free bases....
