Will be making the trip near Augusta this Summer.

How close can you get to Augusta National Golf Course?
What else is nearby?

Family of 4. 12 and 16 year old kids.

Absolutely nothing. Outside of Augusta National, Augusta is an absolute shithole.

You can drive all around Augusta National. You won’t be able to see a thing. It’s completely walled off.

Aiken, SC is home to thoroughbred horse breeders. You might check the calendar to see if there are events going on at that time. You can drive through the town and go right past the horse ranches. There are a few actually within city limits. Some may offer riding lessons or tours.

There are a couple of plantation homes in the area as well. Not sure how fun that would be for the kids…

Honestly, don't waste your time going to Augusta if you don't have to.

Agreed! Had to go to Aiken for work and thought Id stay in Augusta. My client told me dont go out after dark- its bad in Augusta. I thought he was joking, but I had 3 others say same thing. It's nothing to write home about town/hotel or food wise.

Those of us living in Georgia refer to it by another name.... Disgusta.

The disaster is going to also be the proximity of Fort Gordon. That's where commo people go right after basic training. Young, dumb and well, dumb. It was borderline trashy 30 years ago, and it sounds like it's gotten worse. Even back then, none of the people in training were allowed to leave while the Masters has cameras anywhere close to Augusta because of soldiers acting like 17-20 year olds.

These was no respite in the 90s, as Gordon ran 3 shifts (24 hours a day) of trainees, so you could find drunk arse soldiers at 10AM, as well as 10PM, on any given day.

I go to that area routinely for work and always try to stay in Aiken. I do my best to never stay in Augusta.

I went to a business dinner one night at Augusta Country Club. It was dark outside but I was told that Augusta National was the neighbor and parts of that course were visible. I have no idea how hard it is to be onto Augusta Country Club property but that is worth checking out.
