Trump's biggest weakness in debates is allowing the moderator or the opponent to change the subject to something non-substantive or personal against Trump and he goes off topic defending himself personally and squandering all his limited time and often coming across vain in so doing.

He needs to be coached and prepped relentlessly to keep these responses brief and to stay on substance. He annihilates Biden on substance and issues. Trump's positions are popular and Biden's are not. No one gives AF if Biden or the moderator want to claim Trump has less money than he says or that he is not as successful or whatever stupid cheap shot they want to use to distract him from hammering Biden on his horrible policies, record, and personal characteristics.

These debates are mismatches so long as Trump ignores the bait which is absolutely going to be offered in spades.

Even if it's often a matter of style vs. substance, Trump turns defense to offense about as well as anyone out there. Whatever direction it goes he'll be fine

Compared to 4 years ago Biden's cognitive decline is so much more advanced. Trump could be the biggest blowhard possible, he's still going to appear far more lucid. I honestly think the Biden camp was hoping Trump would fight over the debates and not agree to give them an out. Even if the terms aren't perfect for Trump, the simple fact that debates will happen and you can see the juxtaposition is huge

Biden's also always been easy to rile up. He has enough issues remembering basic things now, if you add Trump aggressively poking at him and bringing out the emotional volatility it's going to be a night to remember

The most delusional take has to come courtesy of Howard Stern where his advice to Biden when debating Trump was just to scream “Please find me 11,000 votes” repeatedly. I’m political junkie, and I had to think what Howard was talking about here, nevertheless for someone who casually pays little attention to politics.

Like really Howard, who gives a frick about that? My concerns are putting dinner on the table for my family, paying off my mortgage, illegal immigrants to not be fricking up my city beyond repair, and for my children to not go fight in World War III which we’ve never been closer to since the Cuban Missile Crisis. Only a filthy rich a-hole like you gives a frick about that. Even hardcore Leftists and communists don’t give one frick about that.

Dumb move by either one at this point in the campaign. I can't see an advantage for either one this early.

If Trump thinks he can deliver a knock out blow to Biden on this and Biden appears lucid and sane it backfires.

If Biden thinks he can neutralize Trump and show him to be unhinged and Trump not only stays on message but returns volley.....it backfires

That was a mistake. You are taking the commission out of it and allowing ABC and CNN to control it and with no audiences? This is a bad move. Why are we allowing them to cut the debate commission out of this. Hold Biden's feet to the fire on this.

To be fair I’m for this. The debate commission is antiquated and biased for the Democrats. It should be done away with.
