Solis Tractor

Anyone know anything about Solis tractors? I about to buy a 25 HP tractor and there is a Solis dealer about miles from me and the prices are right. Supposed to be the most common tractor in the world including most of Europe with a good track record. Mitsubishi diesel. Assembled in Arkansas of mostly Indian made steel.
Also considering a geared transmission instead of hydrostatic. I am going to use it mainly for moving shite, not farming. Anyone have an opinion on the difference? I have a hydrostatic lawn mower and never had a minutes problem with it but a 25 HP diesel is a damn site different than a 18 HP gas lawn mower.

If like my hydro transmission. Most of my time is loader work or bush hog. If I was pulling disks more often or ground contact type work, I might prefer a gear drive.

I don't know about that brand tractor but I do have the shuttle shift. I don't mind working the shifter. I have a 26hp Mahindra with the mitsubishi diesel. It has been strong and does not require DEF.

I will use it mostly to spread gravel and feed my sawmill. Seems like the hydro would provide more "control" doing that type of stuff, based solely of course on my experience with my lawn mower. There is only about $2K price difference but my concern is reliabilty....just old school but seems like gears are more substantial and easier to work on? I know most compact tractors are probably hydro and I suspect resell value might be better but it may be that someone looking for a used unit may not be aware there is a difference.....

Gear over hydro for reliability 100%.

We own a tractor dealership and honestly see more gear shift tractors in with transmission issues than HSTs. Clutches issues for sure. if you’re doing dirt work or saw mill work you’d prefer a HST or power shuttle over anything you’d have to clutch and change gear or forward and reverse.

Real question is, how is the service work and wait times?

Don’t know anything about them but pretty sure Mahindra holds that title.

Interesting...and in line with what I have read on other sites. Most seem pretty satisfied with the hydro transmissions.

I would imagine hard to come by and long....there are 2 dealers currently within 100 miles of me where there are about 10 each Deere and Kubota dealers. That being said short of some catastrophic failing I am not too concerned with dealer service or warranty work as I do it myself on everything I have ever owned. Parts may be an issue but supposedly there are almost no parts on the things that are not off the shelf common items....don't know that I buy that but thats what most owners claim. They are not like the Chinese scooters and things sold at auto parts stores that have NO parts available...at least thats the claim. Can't imagine what part on the thing couldn't be hacked to fit...tractors are pretty simple machines.

Its actually a little disingenuous like Ford claiming to sell more pickups than any other manufacturer....GM outsells ford when you combine Chevrolet and GMC. Solis makes the same models under about 10 different names. I suspect Mahindra does the same but they certainly sell more Mahindra branded tractors than any one of the brands Solis sells. One or the other may actually be involved with building the other, I do not know....

Supposedly off the shelf where? And where will they be on the shelf in 15 years? A well taken care of tractor should last the rest of an adult’s life.

Is that the small tractor that Attwoods and Rural King is pushing?

Anywhere. The thing is that there is very little on any mechanical device that is proprietary...out side of software if there is a will there is a way. It is easier to buy exact replacements of course but when they aren't available you don't just take a tractor to the salvage yard. A tractor is a pretty simple machine, there is not a lot on one that can't be hacked. I am no mechanical wizz but outside of software issues I can't think of anything I have ever owned that I could not make work with or without readily available parts....a 25 HP tractor is about as simple a machine as there is, kind of like an outboard motor....most people won't try to hack either but hacking things is how I have made it through life...where there is a need there is a way.
What part of a tractor is proprietary to the point that the thing is useless if the manufacturer stops building it? Bearings? Cylinders? Fittings? Bolt on engine parts? All of that can be hacked....again, its easier to buy an exact replacement but thats not always possible even with big name items. There is a diode in every Mercury outboard sold since the late 90's that Mercury can not provide to anyone other than Mercury dealers and its a 90 - 120 day lead time then. The same diode that costs $159 and is not available can be built for about $3 from parts procured on Amazon....I have done it for several people....where there is a will and a need there is a way....

With those skills, buy a used name brand tractor. Built heavier and less to break.

Maybe on those and smaller tractors.

25 HP Solis is the heaviest in its class by about 300 pounds. Its also a well known brand outside the US especially in Europe. I take your point but simply being painted green or orange doesn't mean a lot....except in price. The same "name brand" used with 300 hours on it in my area runs about 30% more than a new Solis. I am not sold on the brand but am considering one.

I think Rural King is a TYM brand. As far as I know they are not the same but who knows what goes on in India....

They are about as simple as a machine can be. I am sure a combine or some similar machine with software is more than far too complicated for me but a diesel engine driving a hydraulic pump is pretty basic....
