Arnold and Itkin may be the best Plaintiff’s firm in the country right now. Not surprised.

That’s a lot of money for 9 people but this seems like major incompetence

Yep if each person was giving equal amounts they each get around $11 million. Reading through some of the documents those victims deserve every penny. Boise was very negligent and those guys suffered for it.

Have you ever been in a wreck? Gambled? Gotten too drunk? That answer is yes. No one is perfect. This shite will happen even if AI completely takes it over.

Hindsight is 20/20. Like saying "You didn't invest in Bitcoin or Nvidia years ago? You idiot."

Did any of the 7 who survived have any serious injuries or was it them simply just being there near the explosion that got them paid?

Boise is $5.2 bil market cap and PCA is $16 bil market cap. Both increased a lot in weeks after accident. Market didn't give a shite as long as making money haha.

I can assure you 1000% that no one got paid just because they were in close proximity to the explosion.

Not before the lawyers take their assumed 33% and the tax man calls.

The lawyer's fees may be more since it went to trial and there are also the costs on top of fees. On the tax side depending on how the verdict was apportioned very little of it may be taxable. The article didn't mention any breakdown of damages (ie compensatory vs punitive) but it did mention interest being part of the amount. Interest is taxable.

I always wondered if taxes were accounted for in judgements.

There is no way to control how a jury will apportion the damages but in settlements, a good plaintiff's attorney will be cognizant of how the damages are structured in order to reduce or eliminate the tax burden for their client. Sometimes in jury verdicts, they apportion a large amount to punitive damages which are usually taxable. IME as a defense attorney it is rare a settlement for a tort action produces much if any tax burden to the plaintiff.

I’ll just comment on the wtf moment as far as the lockout procedure went

How does no one not realize that there’s a level in that tank before even working on it? Or why wasn’t there a fire blanket at minimum?

What does Boise have to do with it? They said it was a PCA mill?

That video was actually pretty dang informative. I now know how this process works.

Did the families of those that parished receive any type of settlement?
