But the service is a net benefit to the board member as it helps their CV and online profile and general "good person" credentials...

Also, non-profit governance is very closely monitored by the large donors, and the governance quality is "graded" yearly by organizations like Guide Star to help potential donors understand how efficiently and effectively donated funds are deployed.

For some. I've never added it to my CV. I think that's peak douche.

I find that to mostly be a thing with the housewife crowd that's looking for a happy hour soundbite to say when someone asks them what they do because they're too embarrassed to say "sit at home and spend my husbands money"

Im on 2 boards. I work at an animal shelter on weekends and whenever it needs other stuff done. I probably only donate a couple hundred a year honestly but probably donate 40-50 hours a year in work and tools.

The other board is an Auburn Alumni board. I don't donate much of anything to it as it is pretty much defunct and Ive tried to revive it a few times but I am pretty much given up on it.

And how much money do you donate to those boards yearly?

2. I haven't donated to either since being on the board because I provide professional services for both of them.

One. MyFamily.org. I’m the President, CEO, and leading fundraiser. My wife is the CFO.

I have been trying hard to make it a for-profit. But my wife and kids ensure it remains a non-profit.

One but I'm the president. I give about $5k personally and bring in another $50K in fund raising activity.

At one point I was on two.

I would say on an average year I was contributing $30k to each.
