That helps. For over a century democrats held the power in Mississippi. Result?? 50th 50th 50th 50th 50th 50th 50th 50th 50th……year after year.. decade after decade.

Then the Republicans took a majority and then a supermajority. Result??

Back in 2021, the last time nationwide rankings were released by Education Week as part of the organization’s Quality Counts report, Mississippi ranked 35th out of 50 states in education. Graduation rates are turning around. State and national testing grades are turning around.

So it helps when the people of the state wise up.

For New Orleans in particular, it really is interesting how there always seems to be a “party” that’s the focus of life for a particular time: Mardi Gras, Jazzfest, crawfish, and then finally Saints football. Seems like the people are looking for a constant distraction.

this is retarded

The level of apathy is what keeps Louisiana at the bottom of lists like these. The high degree of Louisiana natives staying in Louisiana always confused me, but when you realize that apathy sets in, it makes sense.

Replace party with alcohol and you nailed it. Its not about the event its about a reason to drink. The event is just the vessel.

This is home and most of us are in no position to leave.

This is why I'm here. Most of my family and myself have managed to have a very good life here in this shithole of a state. Having my inlaws and other family nearby has been great for us and our kids.

I have some of my family that is very old and have next to no money, so I need to be here to help take care of them. I don't see how people so easily just toss family to the side to move away and expect others to care for them.

Now I have raised my kids with a strong hint that they probably should be thinking about starting their work lives out of state, and I'm sure at least one of them will. My wife and I will not need them to help care for us as we age.

As long as Louisiana has crooks and a backwards gov., and terrible education, it will always be bad. And 1/2 of our state on welfare of some sort sucking taxpayers dry for no return on their “investment.”

Is there a city in the south that does as bad as Baltimore in education? Where 2,000 students were deemed not proficient at grade level in math? Not one out of 2,000?

lol you guys and your wishy washy claims for "south." If we were talking anything else you guys wouldn't consider anything in Maryland the south.

Bingo. Democrats ran this state at all levels for about 95% of it’s miserable existence.

A Republican is elected governor for what, the fourth time since reconstruction, and this stupid MFer is worried about athletes standing for the anthem and ThC gummies.

Idiots. I can’t wait to move out of this state.

Most of my friends move their family to where they live. I live in the Houston area. Where are they living in Louisiana that their life is so great? My parents lived on an old family farm in NE La in a place that is about as rural BFE as you can get. I eventually moved them to assisted living so my mom could get help in taking care of my dad, but after he passed, moved her here. She's in a small apt near me and loves it. She has no money besides her social security.

My family acted like Dallas and then Houston was the end of the earth. I was a 4 and 5 hour drive. I am the only one that left NE La. But my life is much better and my kids drastically better. I wanted my kids to feel like they could fly and go and do whatever they wanted. Guilting people into staying put against their best interest is an awful thing to do and it's rampant in Louisiana.

I know it’s popular to shite on the state on this board, but for those still living there, do you feel like this is accurate? And if so, do you think you need to leave or that things can change for the better?

Now that I have kids, I feel this a lot more. I don’t see how things will get better for us. The only job opportunity is working in a plant. Schools are just not good. With the exception of the occasional interstate project, no infrastructure seems to improve. I feel stuck.

Louisiana’s GDP wealth ranks around 25 for the country. So they have money and are not poor. But with liberals in charge nothing will change except more free handouts.

The elderly part of my family that I feel stuck taking care of lives in south La. Doesn't matter where really. They are in poor health and have no money so moving them wouldn't be an option.
It is what it is. My life is good so I can't complain. In five or 10 years we may look seriously into moving out of state though.

And screw living in Houston or Dallas.

There is literally nothing desirable about living in Louisiana outside of 7 home LSU football games a year

For cost of living you can find equal or better in Mississippi, Alabama, and Arkansas

Home insurance rates in desirable areas are increasing significantly year over year
Roads are terrible. Traffic is terrible
Weather is disgusting
