re: Do you legitimately enjoy your job?

I love my job and keep putting off retirement just to keep doing it. There are times it is highly stressful, creates huge pressure/stakes, and can be extremely chaotic. I function better (relatively) in chaos, pressure, and dangerous situations so if it weren't for my job feeding this need I would have sought out a lot more of those situations in my hobbies and it may have shifted over into direct self-destructive behavior.
For now, I still love going into work and even after 30 years each new case seems to find a way to be unique. I plan to continue until the wife is ready to retire. The comp doesn't hurt either.

How many of you out there genuinely enjoy what you do for a living vs just dread every waking moment and count down until the weekend?
I love the job I do, I hate the employer I work for (government contract work really limits the options there).

I enjoy my job more days than not.

Yes. I recently left my job and started my own business. It's amazing.

While I enjoy it for the most part, after almost 27 years, I'm pretty much over it too. I'll be punching out at 30.5 years, not because I hate it or am disgruntled, but because there are other things that I want to go do.

Nope because I despise drama and don’t enjoy babysitting adults.

I kinda like my job. I’m a high school AP which usually sucks but I get to work at a special building that lets kids from three local high schools attend to do the things they enjoy. Amazing the difference in attitude and behavior when kids enjoy their classes.
We don’t have sports, dances or all that other shite so I’m basically M-F 7:30 to 3:30. Honestly it’s more difficult at home with two kids under 6.
I’ve got a top job in my district.

I loved my career and would do it all over again. Every day was a new experience
My career has allowed me to live in 5 different countries outside the US and travel the world. It allowed me to meet my wife which never would have happened otherwise. Pretty cool for a guy who grew up on a farm in SW Louisiana. Now it has allowed me to make this recent move to Europe and I am hoping this is my final stop for my career because we really love it here. The work/life balance is the best I’ve ever had, the stress from the job is minimal and we really feel at home here. 30 days vacation per year plus holidays and all of Europe at our doorstep.

but I also don't "just dread every waking moment"
Its just...something I do
That’s me. And it probably has to do with the fact that I’m not a “I’m a doctor/lawyer/engineer/architect”…Kind of person. I am a “I work for…” kind of person

I don’t hate my job, per se. It has its moments. My gripe is how the company is run, but there’s a lot more to unpack than I want to get into. I need to move on sooner or later. I’ve hit a ceiling here.

I wouldn't say I "enjoy" it.
A few months ago I would have said I absolutely hated it. However, I've been out on leave from a back surgery and I do really miss being productive and practicing my skills.
This leave gave me good perspective that I have a great job and should be thankful.
However, if I win the lottery, I'll be out of that place in the blink of an eye.

I enjoy it but I always feel like I'm riding a wave up or down. I work in trucking and it's been an absolutely brutal 18 months.

Legitimately enjoy the work? No. I do love the people I work with and have gotten to know over the decades. That is what has kept me around.
I have been in the same industry for 35 years, same employer for the last 25. Was recently offered and accepted early retirement as part of a company wide expense management effort. I am out the door in a few months, will take a month or two off and have my next job lined up.
At this point, it is no longer about enjoyment. It is a means to an end - truly being retired. I still work hard, always have and will.
