Hope he's playing smooth jazz up in that big castle in the sky now.

He sat in with Letterman's band often.

Everyone should take a moment and watch some YouTube videos of his show from the 80s called Night Music. Lots of great guests, including Miles, Pharoah Sanders, Bootsie, etc.
Here’s a very young RHCPs

Night Music was amazing. Used to watch it regularly. Sanborn had a rough life as a kid - he was confined to an iron lung.

His work with Marcus Miller is pretty good

I think the show featured the definitive version of Zevon's Lawyers Guns and Money:
He assembled a kickass band, for sure.
(ETA: RIP - by all accounts a great dude.)

What an unbelievably great cover of a Ray Charles classic.

NOLA fellas with an appreciation of the unique style blues that started in NOLA (not the Leadbelly, Hooker or Elmore James type, which is also great, more Dr. John, Professor Longhair, James Booker) should really appreciate this guy. Had a great music show where he had Dr. John on regularly. Dr. John did probably the best performance of “Right Place Wrong Time” he’s ever done and he played sax on it. He was smooth jazz but could play is arse off and was an absolute student of the tradition.
