Don't worry, people will claim to watch it, to own the chuds.

Or this is a discussion forum where people share opinions on films and tv shows.

But up until recently, people formed these opinions by actually watching movies and tv shows. Now the low IQs just download their talking points from YouTube and try to argue with people that have actually seen it. Just look at the A24 Civil War thread as a recent example.

It is like trying to explain something to a cultist who simply ignores everything else.

Tolkien’s books have been around for decades. Some of the older fans have read those books multiple times over. The Peter Jackson movies have been out for over 20 years, so there isn’t any lack of understanding the established world..

Well before this garbage posing as Tolkien’s work hit Amazon prime, I absolutely knew it was going to be a disaster. Why? How would I possibly know such a thing?

As I have explained before, it wasn’t that hard to figure out. Seeing who had been ignored by Amazon Studios, as well as those fired, or left the project, it was not hard to deduce that this wasn’t going to be remotely respectful to the book canon.

This is no different than when a star quarterback, running back, and three starters on the offensive and defensive line have left the team and people predict an 5 and 7 season.

Also those filling those positions have absolutely no clue what they are doing, and everyone knows it.

I knew it, millions of fans knew it, and yes… Multiple Youtubers knew it.

I knew the real housewives of new jersey was gonna be a disaster. How could I possibly know such a thing?

but the difference is I don't go post in threads discussing real housewives or jerk off like i'm somehow superior to the people that enjoy it

people enjoy different things.

There’s no scenario where RHW is going to be epic. This is a fail comparison on so many levels.

Of course they do! But those who love Tolkien are rejecting this Prime stuff outright. Same with the disastrous Gollum video game It killed a studio.

there was no scenario where the real housewives of new jersey was going to be epic. yet it lives on in season 14

Believe it or not I watched the first Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings movie with someone that hated it. She was there to see Not Another Teen Movie, but had to leave when the tits showed up. she didn't enjoy the fellowship at all.

wait so if I watch the show it means I don't REALLY love Tolkien? haha that is some weird gatekeeping. I've read the books multiple times and listened to The Silmarillion audiobook.

Tolkien is dead. We aren't gonna get any new Tolkien

Apple’s Foundation could have been just as epic, but it’s a pale shadow of Asimov’s series. The two main characters of the show were race and gender-swapped from white men to black women. The story was altered to keep them alive for more seasons. Far greater impact than adding a black dwarf and Latino elf. And yet you enjoy the show and participated in the discussion. We are able to have threads for every season without constantly being told we are supposed to hate it with YouTube videos as evidence. How can you like Foundation yet refuse to acknowledge people like RoP?

You’re right, we aren’t getting any new Tolkien. Except for The hunt for Gollum and The war of the Rohirrim.

But Amazon prime’s rings of power isn’t Tolkien.

It isn’t even trying to be. Which is so sad because it is selling itself as part of his Middle Earth.

bullshite it is.

For all of its faults, Foundation still has some decent writing and acting. Same cannot be said for ROP.

But I have picked up a copy of the book and have enjoyed what I’ve read so far.

The difference is that he liked Foundation. So it doesn't matter that it fits his definition of woke perfectly or that it shits on a classic authors source because again, he liked it. Those things don't matter when you like a show.

It is. Foundation changed entire plot lines and added characters to make Gaal and Salvor women and alive past season 1.

You could swap the elf and dwarf to white characters and there would be absolutely no change to the quality or story in RoP

Yep, foundation is a great example that a TV show doesn't need to be true to the source material (and can completely contradict it) to be a great tv show

There were zero dwarves, hobbits or elves of color and Tolkien’s universe. None. They were, much to the chagrin of the DEI Nazis, plenty of colored representation. Just not those.

But what Amazon did was turn the lineage and uniqueness of each race, and just toss them into a blender for the hell of it. That far outweighs the changing of one or two characters.

No it doesn’t. If you changed Salvor and Gaal back to white guys the whole plot of the show would change. If you made the elf and dwarf white, nothing changes at all.

Races & cultures > individual characters.

It's really not that hard to understand.

But as a treat, something everyone can enjoy.

this is true. their race doesn't play into the character at all. It's not like they have to struggle with racism from the white dwarfs or elves in the show.
