I loathe The Deer Hunter because I know from articles it was basically 10 hours long absent a studio editor. That's not a Director who knows his craft....he's just running film, trying to capture a good scene..... What's the art in that? That's stupid Andy Warhol shite (Sleep film).

Sounds partially like a bunch of modern soft arse actors and crew want to do everything the easy way with horrible cgi.

And partially like Coppola is bat shite crazy.

The part about making Driver sit to do the special effect the old way is fine so long as they actually use it in the final film.

The bit where he changes his mind every day, refuses to map things out, and rolls w/a "we'll fix it in post" mentality is horseshite behavior and shows a total lack of respect for his post production team.

That's the exact same kind of behavior that has degraded how good CGI looks in so many movies the last several years. If you want it to look right you can't fly by the seat of your pants. The movie might still be good but if this is truly how the shoot went down then I'm not expecting much from the CG.

It sounds similar in some ways to how Apocalypse Now was filmed.

The Drinker has a good short video on the production on his channel.

Premiered at Cannes today. Reviews are all over the place. Some say it’s a masterpiece and others a disaster. Now I have to see it

The showing at the premiere featured a guy walking up to the screen, asking Cesar (Adam Driver) a question, and Cesar answered him.

I can imagine this cut of the film showing up at a few choice US premieres. Too bad us plebes won't be able to get that experience.

Some kid with a broom is not going to be paid enough for that.

Fo better or worse, it looks like a big, bold film. The kind that would motivate me to leave the house to see in a theater.
