Will watch. Emily Watson is a fantastic actress. Good to see her getting an American role that could end up being a popular series.

Solid cast, love Mark Strong.

Looks like they did a good job of capturing the tone of the movies.

I'm looking forward to this.

Shortly after its announcement, the project received criticism for its lack of female creatives except for Herbert's granddaughter, Kim Herbert.[20][21] Dana Calvo was hired in July 2019 to serve as showrunner alongside Spaihts.[22][23] In November 2019, Spaihts left the series to focus on Dune: Part Two (2024).[24][25] The Hollywood Reporter reported that Legendary Television was "not happy" with Spaihts's early work as showrunner and opted to remove him.[24] Diane Ademu-John had been hired as the new showrunner by July 2021.[26][27] As production of Dune: Part Two progressed, Villeneuve was no longer able to direct and replaced by Johan Renck as director for the first two episodes in April 2022.[28] Shortly after production began, Diane Ademu-John had exited the project as co-showrunner but remained the executive producer; this left Alison Schapker as the sole showrunner.[29] In February 2023, Renck also exited the project, resulting in the project being on hiatus.[4] He was replaced by Anna Foerster that June, who would direct multiple episodes, including the pilot.[30] In November 2023, the series was retitled Dune: Prophecy and set to release on WarnerMedia's new streaming service, Max.[31][32]

Is this some Brian Herbert shite?
I’d rather they just made it up.

I think it’s more likely the delays are due to the difficulty of adapting novels that are nearly universally hated by fans of the Dune series. For those that don’t know, this show is based on the Dune books written by Frank’s son Brian.

None of this will be based on Frank Herbert's writing, as he didn't delve that deep in the lore of the Dune Universe.

Instead, this will be based on Brian Herbert's books - Frank's son - which basically shite all over Frank's legacy.

The sequels did.

The prequels were just poorly written. Had a few interesting ideas but executed very very sloppy

I'm in. Purposely never read any of the son's stuff because it was so off the wall. I would 100% trust an HBO show to be better than his stuff.

Cast looks really solid with Watson, Strong, and... RAGNAR LOTHBROK.

Similar to the GOT prequels, it’s just not that interesting to build a show around the lead up to another well established story. So many other ways they could do this that would be so much more interesting than just filming things we already know happen in the lore

A Dune prequel has a lot of promise. What happened in the war with the AI's? How did each house rise? What lead to the discovery of spice and its implications in space travel? Why do the Harkonans hate the Atreidis? Why did the Atreidis trust Dr. Hooey or whatever his name was? etc.

This just looks like a chick empowerment story about the rise of the witches, which is the least interesting thing they could have done. I'll watch Dune 2 on May 21 but not this mess.
