And one of their losses has a huge asterisk by it. They hit a three-run home run against Mandeville in the 6th which would have sealed the game but the ump called it foul (it was four feet inside the pole) and admitted he didn’t see it clear the fence so he had to stick with the call on the field.

How many of their wins could you put an asterisk by?

One of the E.D. White teams that won 4 in a row with Jon Zeringue lost one game all year while throwing a no hitter vs St. James lol. I think it was the 2000 or 2001 team.

2A champs that went 29-2 and outscored the opposition 350ish to around 60. Heck in the playoffs they outscored teams 75-3.

What kind of schedule did they play? We can’t compare schedules from before the power point era with schedules after, when you have incentive to play different teams than you would have before

Hard to believe a team from the 60s being as good as a team that has played travel ball year round their entire lives.
. You have to remember until the early 90s youth sports were not everyone gets a trophy

And those guys spent their summers playing legion ball against players 2-3 years apart.

No need in 2024 since Catholic won 3 vs Non-Select Div. 1 champion, West Monroe.

Short-sighted. 2023 Barbe and 2024 Barbe are not the same team.

Just like Catholic 2023 and Catholic 2024 are not the same team.

i dont remember what kind of schedule they played but they were dominant. that was their last year in 2a, moved up to 3a after and got beat by ED white in the finals

then ED white won again in 01 over the beau herring led jennings team

for best teams got to include 2014 barbe who was named #1 in PG, Baseball America, Max preps and NHSBCA. they went 39-2 and were led by Beau Jordan and ended the season on 28 game win streak beating Live oak in the ship 7-1. the beat WM, Catholic, neville, STM, ND, Evangel, district foes then swept catholic and everyone else in playoffs.

ETA: I just checked. Only 4 times in the history of Louisiana has a high school pitcher been selected in the 1st round. Most recent is 1996

2005 had 2.

Yea Teurlings moved up to 3A in 1999-2000. 99 team was senior laden, the 00 team was far different from the 99 version but still very good. Like another person said they lost in finals to ED White 3-2 in extras.
TCH didn’t have anyone like Zeringue.
I believe the 99 team lost like 3-2 to barbe for one of their losses. The other was to a big Mississippi school by one run in a tourney.

Nope

This is the list. Schmidt will be the 5th. Oddly enough there has never been a lefty. Keep in mind this is just true 1st rounders. Not supplemental guys or compensatory guys

West and Jones were picks 41 and 44 in 2005.

That Barbe 2021 team was stout too.

You had Jack Walker, Gavin Guidry, and Landon Victorian on the same staff.

Barbe from last year went 39-1. Scoring 355 runs and only allowing 40. Half their games were shutouts. Doubt there is a better team than Barbe 2023.

Wake me up when the aforementioned schools in this thread play by the same rules as everyone else in the state

And before the butthurt barbe faithful show up and show out, let me just get this out the way now: I never said yall CHEAT… just that yall (and a few other schools) do everything way different than the rest of the normal schools/baseball programs do

Because my school only takes kids from within its own district, doesn’t have kids moving in from other areas to play sports, and doesn’t hold kids back.

Schools like Barbe, WM, Catholic, Curtis, Acadiana, some of the Catholic schools in NOLA, Zachary, etc all do some form of this… no matter how clean you say barbe is, EVERYONE (but you apparently) knows they bend the hell out of the rules. You don’t have the type of success they do year in, year out without doing so

Have they built a very successful program? Absolutely. 1000%

Am I a little jealous? Absolutely

But let’s not act like a perennial power just popped up out of nowhere just by accident… it’s crazy. Y’all are on a completely different playing field than the rest of the state. You guys SHOULD win the title year in, year out… Any type of justification or excuse from you is crazy talk and just you being a huge homer

Look, when the sheath hits the fan, he has the kind of edge you want in a player. Just as long as he keeps a handle on it.
