My wife and I have three cars. We keep an old convertible for occasional fun driving during nice weather. We probably only drive it three to four weeks out of the year. Progressive charges the full rate for all three automobiles if all 3 are driven full-time. Since we can only drive two at a time, shouldn't the risk/pay be less?

No, but you CAN ask to get convertible rated low miles. Install a tracker or take pics of odometer to verify.
Low miles is generally described as less than 3-5 thousand/yr

We have a 1999 Mercedes SL500 that we insure for liability only through allstate and the premium isnt bad. It is also set to only see 1-2k miles annually which i believe gets us a discount.

The 6 mo premium we just paid for that is $172.18.

For my 2014 Accord it's $354.49 for full coverage and my wife's 2014 MDX is $784.96 (both 6 mo premiums). I have a low mileage thing on my Accord for 3k-4k miles a year and my wifes MDX is just normal.

You could look into Hagerty on the old convertible.

I wouldn't be shocked if you get better coverage at a lower premium on that vehicle.

I second this. Depending on the year of the car, the savings are pretty tremendous. There's no way I'd be putting any classic (I know you said old) car on regular insurance.

Well it's an 08 Volvo C70 so it won't qualify yet. But I'm calling Progressive in the morning.

I have an old VW Kit car convertible insured with American Modern. I pay $250 a year for $7500 agreed cost total loss coverage with 5K miles per year allowance. It has to be stored in a locked garage and it can't be a daily driver. $250 is their minimum premium so I should have asked could I go $10K agreed cost and still be the minimum premium My premium has been the same $250 a year for the last 10 years. I'm in MS.

Agent is Rally Insurance in the Chicago area. They are the only insurance co and agent I could find that would insure VW Buggies and Kit Cars.

You could still try Hagerty.

They treat 2 door vehicles different than 4 door vehicles. The worst they can say is no. They will insure 2024 two door luxury cars.

That’s who I would start with as well - it’s certainly worth a try. I have several collectible automobiles (but all over 35 years old), and although there are others, Hagerty is an excellent choice.

Yep, saving half the premium with Hagerty. Thanks.
