I think most people knew what he meant. You’re just being argumentative for the sake of being argumentative.

All I said was that him saying that he likes that BK is not in “win now” mode was a dumb thing to say. He’s the one that brought up playing with a WR playing QB in a bowl game, comparing LSU to other schools, talking about buying players, and a bunch of other dumb shite. He started rambling about a bunch of shite that had nothing to do with my original comment to him.

I don’t like top end being 13-15 and we will be at like 7.

They’ve made a lot of progress considering they were so far behind the 8 ball in O’s last season.

but don’t plan on spending it all? If so, that’s a good sign.

Nobody said they don't plan on spending it.

The article explicitly says that they will focus spending on retention first, taking care of players already here to keep them here, in preference to overpaying for mid-tier mercenaries. Which is how it should be.

So the median is 10m, we budgeted 8m, and don't think we'll hit that.

We might as well be Clemson.

Oh they'll spend it even if the surplus will go to next year's class. The #1 QB, WR, RB and possibly no 1 DL if he reclassifies to 25 will not be cheap.

the median amount that SEC collectives will spend on football teams next season is $10 million. He estimated the top end will be $13-15 million, while the median throughout the Power Four conferences will be $4.5 million.
People keep getting caught up on this 10 mill and 13-15 mill number. Think about it like this, that number is skewed because of 1 year assasins. Ole Miss's group is likely skyrocketing the number. Not only will they not be able to do that yearly, the transfer portal won't always fit to meet their needs at their price. Do people not understand that they will be losing the vast majority of their 2 deep after next year? It's all transfers.

Texas, UGA, and Ole Miss are pumping the numbers high right now, but don't think that makes the team always elite just because of the payouts. Kids still have to be developed and retained. LSU wants to be a mix of Michigan and UGA. They want to build a culture of wanting to play for LSU, while at the same time, getting reasonable compensation. Look at the guys who are here, you'd have to be a fool to think Perkins, Campbell, and Jones wouldn't fetch top market prices. After the spring game, Lacy could have fetched high prices as well. They are choosing to stay at LSU and get less money than they would on an open market. BK is looking for these type of kids. You still get money, but money is only the extra on top of everything else LSU can do for you.

I’m not saying I disagree with the overall premise of your post, but this isn’t how medians work.

If you read the article, they are about to get the "regular" fans involved at the $50 - $100 a month level. This will expand the fund.

University takes in millions, has fans pay for the labor, sweet fricking deal. Eventually people will get over the competitive nature of this race and realize this set up is arse backwards, right ?

You are overreacting to what he stated. Kelly is in win now mode, he just isn't going to cut off his nose to spite his face. Use common sense it's not one player it's a full team he has to manage.

It will be interesting to watch how the different approaches play out. To do what Kelly wants to do will take some masterful marketing skills: telling kids to ignore the money being thrown at them because of LSU’s intangibles will be a challenge. I have a hard time believing we’ll never need to win a bidding war with the other top schools.

Exactly. Which is why specifically saying "He’s not in “win now” mode" is stupid. It's not my fault he said something that is the complete opposite of the truth.

The Tigers targeted TCU transfer Damonic Williams and Michigan State transfer Simeon Barrow. Belzer said Williams’ market value would have been around $400,000 in the December transfer portal window, but low supply and high demand in the spring raised prices. Williams and Barrow both asked for seven-figure deals, multiple sources said, numbers that LSU did not come close to matching.

And this is why it was a mistep by Kelly not to go after a dt or two in the December window. Even if Wingo anf Smith came back, you still needed guys. It was always likely Smith was leaving.

Now he put himself in a position to have to overpay, which we know he won't do(I don't blame him)

I thought Kelly would've had the forethought to tackle dt in the winter portal.

Not in a "win now" mode? LSU football needs to be a "win now" mentality every year, What you smoking on?

He made the mistake of assuming you understood (like everyone else* who read it) what he meant when he said:
quote:

He’s not in “win now” mode like some other coaches (Kiffin) are. He’s got a 10 year plan to win multiple championships, not just win one & retire.

He was continuing that comparison to elaborate on why Kiffin’s approach may be a huge mistake and how it can hurt the program over the long term, presumably under the assumption that you were attempting to actually argue against his point rather than semantics.

Ironically, you told me you “know what he was trying to say” which would, in theory, mean you also know why he continued with that “bunch of shite that had nothing to do with” your original reply. Had he known you were just being argumentative about semantics, I suspect he would have ignored you.

*Well, almost everyone else. I guess you’re in good company.

Again, I have never suggested that we should follow the same plan as Ole Miss. Nor do I think we should have spent $1.5 million on Williams.

He should have left out that entire first sentence because it’s stupid. Just say that he has a long term plan. Thats why I only quoted that one sentence in my post. I wanted to point out how dumb it sounded. I wasn’t trying to argue about all that other shite (K State bowl game, etc) he started talking about

Wrong Georgia & Alabama & now Texas have built their teams through recruiting. The only true sign of paying players was TXam and we know how that went. CBK, SW,& AT will figure this out. DL is a problem right now duh, but 7 figures for 2 average DL in the portal won’t win a Natty and especially destroy LSU. They won’t open the bank for these dudes but you best believe they’ll open it for Stewart a born and bred Louisianimal. Whatever kind of NIL we have will be on full display- they’ll push all the chips in. I’m not a skeptic but a P&G true believer in this recruitment.

yall remember the NILSU movement the day NIL went live back a few summers ago. LSU was pumping their chest and got caught with their pants down. They expected NIL to be all of these wonderful opportunities we offer to student athletes and it was actually a free agency and recruiting tool to pay players legally.

I'm glad Bayou Traditions is doing something but our whole NIL scheme is thoroughly behind some of our rivals on the gridiron.

Thanks for showing your ignorance.
