They were a strike 3 pass ball and a catcher throwing error away

So you’re saying they were just a handful of instances of really bad baseball away from being good?

Of course it came down to a handful of terrible plays in a handful of close games

That’s what separates good teams from bad teams. We are a bad team this year. This team does nothing well, fundamentals least of all.

Add to that the SEC is much more competitive from top to bottom these days so even small misfires are more costly than in the past.

It’s been that way for at least the past five years.

There’s nothing wrong with saying that we suck this year. Because we do. We have several bad players that play bad baseball. The portal should fix that, both incoming and outgoing.

You act like that last play is where the game was lost.

It was actually lost via many plays much earlier during the game.

Pretty much every loss we had an SEC play followed that pattern.

He mentioned bad plays at the end of 2 games that would have us with a better outlook today. There are plenty of mistakes during the season. That is not his point.

No his point was to single out one player. Don’t fool yourself.

While I agree with your premise, I can not recall a fairly routine 60 foot throw to end the game throw result in a two run error and a walk off win for LSU. Certainly not this year.

Fairly Easy? Maybe for the pitcher. The ball was nearly to the mound and the throw to first had to be very quick. For him it was more difficult. He misjudged the speed and spin of the ball off the bat. That was where the error occurred. It was going to be a run with a tie game or a close out.

LSU really couldn't catch a break this season. It felt like all 50/50 plays went the other way

Means we’re stacked for the next 20 games or so.

Yeah but FL, Auburn, and Bama stick out. If those 3 went the other way, LSU would be sitting in a much better position today.

The Florida and Alabama games especially. We were one out away from winning both those games.

Fwiw

Milazzo,s catch and tag at the plate won us the National Championship last year.

I’ll give him a pass this year.

We had a lot of favorable results and things bounce in our favor in the first 15 games against non-conf teams that allowed us to keep the early season momentum. Since then it’s as if we can’t catch a break but sec opponents haven’t given us anything either. Can’t recall any errors by any sec teams and if anything there guys have been laying out and stealing hard hit balls when we do hit them.

Yes it did. He was pushed into retirement in a way that saved face. It amounts to the same thing. I’m a CPM fan. I think he was great coach and is a wonderful man, but he was sinking and was replaced at LSU’s initiative.

I would have to disagree. Anyone else besides Morgan on that play it never happens. So don’t give the glory to Milazzo like he jumped 15 foot in the air and did a back flip to tag someone at home plate. That play was 80/20 Morgan.

This happened in the 8th inning and is shown as a wild pitch on the LSU play by play.

We walked the first batter in the 9th who eventually came around to score and tie the game.

But yes, we have been very close to having quite a bit of breathing room today vs. the reality.

Good to great teams do not make the amount of small and big mistakes that we have throughout the year.

I know for certain this year I realized that the difference between an 11 SEC win team and a 20 win SEC team isn't much. It's really amazing.
