He'll be fine if he works hard. However, this year he will not be fine. The DTs are going to struggle even with portal help.

How do you know he was 273? Never believe any of the height/weight stuff you hear.

That’s what he’s listed on LSU’s website. And they generally add a few pounds to those to make it look better. It’s very possible that he was less than 273 when he enrolled.

Dom is a boom or bust type of guy. Always has been IMO.

He’s not even enrolled yet is he? That probably makes it even less likely it is all good weight.

On the other hand it could also mean the 273 listed by LSU was old.

I’m honestly worried. That kid sounded lazy, overweight, unintelligent, and uninformed. He’s young though so I don’t really care. Plus I’m grown and don’t really care enough to get my panties in a wad.

Example of the bad side of having the best sports message board. Don’t even know this kid nor has he played a down at LSU.

Bash away though

And half the board is already writing him off as a failure without even playing a single snap because of his demeanor in one interview. I love this place. lol!!

I wouldn't give an ounce of credibility to anything that poster says. He didn't listen to the interview, and has no earthly idea what he's talking about, proven by the point that he thinks he's already enrolled.

1- they spoke during the interview of being 280 during his last year of HS.

2- McKinley is the one saying he is currently at 315. But I'm sure known rant shite poster, LSUBoosie, would know that this isn't accurate better than the kid himself.

3- he will arrive on campus next week (maybe May 23rd if I'm remembering correctly).

I didn't see one single person writing him off as anything. All I simply said was there were some things he said in the interview that were concerning. I'm not attacking his intelligence, not saying he will be a bust, or anything bad. Just saying some of what he said isn't exactly what you want to hear.

I bet 99% of the people getting all worked up over comments that aren't all rainbows and unicorns haven't even heard the interview.

You’re right, I didn’t listen to the interview or claim to have listened, I was simply going off the OP. I messed up, he hasn’t enrolled yet. I wasn’t dogging the kid, just said that’s a lot of weight to gain and I hope it’s all good weight. High school kids don’t necessarily have all the resources to make sure they are gaining good weight, but I’m sure you know that.

I understand how an interview works. He could be exaggerating a little lot though. Either way, I hope he’s actually 315. If he can be 295+ of good weight I think he can be a huge price to this team. I don’t know why you think I was trying to talk shite about the kid. Hell, you are shitting on him more than I am. I have no clue what he weighs, what program he’s on, etc.

Side question: when do you think we’ll see the offense come around and hit like they did against VMI? I think 27 hits could help come postseason time.

Care to point out where I said YOU were shitting on him?

I was pointing out that you are a known garbage poster on here, and nothing you say should be taken seriously.

...
That's exactly how I felt while I was listening to that interview sadly.

I listened to the interview after reading the first page of this thread. I can't say you're wrong, but do think you might be reading into it a little bit.

Regarding the workout plan and weight, there's a few things:

1) The interview glossed over his senior year weight without pinning it down exactly. I got the impression the 270-ish weight may have been preseason. And McKinley didn't specify what his weight was as the season went on. So he may have been playing heavier.

2) McKinley acknowledged he was following the advice of his trainer over just doing the plan LSU (Coach Flint?) sent him. I agree with you regarding what you heard... BUT... he didn't elaborate on the difference between his trainer's plan vs LSU's plan. For all we know, he shared LSU's plan with his trainer and they are following much of it and the trainer is supplementing where he feels necessary. This is speculation, of course, but so is the idea that he is flat out ignoring the LSU plan. McKinley did imply the trainer is getting him ready, though, so the idea that he is letting himself go and just putting on bad weight doesn't sound consistent with what he said. And I caught a hint of him having faith in his trainer, so it is understandable that he may have a strong relationship and trust with him... so this relationship may be more advantageous than McKinley working out and doing drills without feedback.

3) back to weight... we also don't know if LSU's plan involved him doing a lot of strength/power work which would also resulted in a bulking phase anyway. 315 sounds heavy, but he may have already been 290-300 by spring anyway. Also, he's 6'5" I think.

Overall, I see where you're coming from, but there's too many variables we don't know about to worry. The fact that he is relying on his trainer is not bad *as long as his trainer has his best interests in mind. So, I take hope that he is open to guidance. That's better than being wowed by rumors of players like Arik Gilbert, who reportedly ran the levee all day... only to flake out once on campus.

This next part is not directed at you, but to the guy who critiqued McKinley's oratory prowess:

He was definitely some combination of nervous and/or guarded in some of his answers... this was evident at some points, like when he was asked about the Gordon NIL deal. And it makes sense for a variety of reasons that he might not want to be overly open about how that played out. At other times, like towards the end when he was asked about Coach Kelly, his answer (which was along the lines of Kelly being a great, energetic, honest guy) was more relaxed and fluid and he showed a hint of personality. I dont think it's an accident that as the questions moved away from him towards other topics that he loosened up a little. He also more politely started adding, "yes, sir" to some of his answers towards the end. Not only did this show him to be respectful, but showed he was settling down and relaxing into a more pleasant politeness than he showed in his initial terse answers. He wasn't as charismatic as Garrett Brumfield was during interviews a few years back, but Brumfield was an exception, and McKinley is young. I saw signs he might be a decent, if camera shy, young man. Nothing to be concerned about. Definitely nothing that should be construed in a negative light.

I mean I get it, that has happened with some Dlinemen in the past. But I really think it is unfair to say that about this kid based on that interview. Kid just sounded nervous and maybe a little introverted to me. I mean he is still an 18 yr old kid.
