I’m down 26 lbs in 11 weeks. The worst of my gastro has subsided, it’s helping a lot with my esophageal stricture and reflux and my clothes are all super loose. The negatives are rather severe nausea there for a few weeks, significant lethargy and a weird detached feeling. No depression, just dulled around the edges. Probably because I am really struggling to eat enough. The savings in food costs have outpaced the medication costs. Also , I have stayed at the second lowest dose since week four- taking the smallest dose that I still get results with on my physicians recommendation. I’m a non diabetic , I’m taking to help with severe esophageal issue and weight loss is a bonus. I want to lose about 25 more.

Today makes 4 weeks on Ozempic for me and I'm down a little over 11#. I'll take my first 0.5mg shot this evening.

Tomorrow for me is 6 weeks on semaglutide and I'm down 16 pounds. I'm not going to go up in dose until I am losing less. It really is a game changer. I could still choose to overeat, but it makes it really easy to just stop at 1/3 or so of a serving.

People can bitch all they want about me being weak enough to need a drug for it. But currently all the research says it's good, so I'm just going to do me.

It's interesting for me, because I very much can see when it seemed like a switch flipped in my brain/body, etc. and I started gaining. I took a job that I liked very much, but was working a ton of hours and the environment was stressful. A lot of the time, they even brought in dinner and we always went out for lunch. Sometime around then, things in my mind changed so that I just constantly was thinking about what would be the next meal, was their cookies in the break room, etc. I had been thin, size 4-6, even after 2 babies. I believe I had a lifestyle change, combined with stress, that just changed things for me. This drug very much makes me feel the way I used to, when I wasn't thinking of food constantly and easily stopped as soon as I felt at all full. It's just a game changer.

I started Wegovy 3 weeks ago today. I'm down 8.5 lbs as of this morning. I take the shot before going to bed on Wednesday night, and by mid day Thursday to about Monday evening I have little to no desire to eat. I do eat a little because I know I need to and what I am eating is small servings high in protein. By Tuesday evenings and during the day Wednesday I do feel hungry at times, but not anything like the cravings I had before starting this and all of it is still small portions. So I'd say the stuff works.
Now for why I am taking it... well my health was out of control and I just couldn't get it together on my own. (I know that sounds lazy and pathetic) I used to control it by running, but my knee is trashed and as the pounds kept adding up, my knee only got worse. With the knee issue I doubt I will ever get to run another marathon, but I hope getting things started with this medication I could maybe return to running 3-5 miles a day.
I started at 268.5 lbs and would be happy to get back to 225-230 range. I am 6'-5" and when I was running 35-40 miles a week I was around 210-215. The long term goal is using this to kick start the weight loss and gain control of my eating habits again. A extra bonus would be to run a few 5k's in the fall again as well.
I enjoyed reading this thread and your experience.

Any side effects for you?

I’m considering using it along with my Testosterone.

I’d like to be about 20-25 lbs lighter

You look fantastic.

What was the time frame on the loss?

Only 3 months? Wow.

Well, I definitely don’t need the testosterone.

But no, I’ve not had side effects for the most part. I have occasional stomach pain. It’s kind of an ache, but not a cramp. Also sometimes when I have to go, it’s now. But mostly, it’s good.

I recently was told by my doctor to get on one of these GLP1 medications and was doing some research on it, any thoughts on the point of view of this doctor?

well he is completely wrong say there is no long term safety data

1) this is a peptide and just replacing what your body already produces and is not some new chemical into your body. Similar to testosterone replacement

2) we have been investigating these medicines since atleast the early 80s and they have been approved and in use for diabetes since 2005. so we have almost 20 years of data on the safety of these medicines

many doctors are going to tell you not to take the medicine based on them wanting to sell something or them being scared of it because they dont understand it etc

also many are going to do the opposite, they make money off it so they push it and push higher doses than needed based on patient progress.

understand doctors are some of the smartest people in the world, but they also run a business and sometimes those two things can get crossed

my suggestion is...do your own research, talk to your doctor on why he wants you to go on it, discuss any questions you may have with him

we can help you here for a lot of these things and point you in the direction but in the end this is a decision you have to make with the help of your doctor

also understand these are miracle drugs but they work the good ole fashion way in making you not hungry making you burn more than you take in

anytime that happens you are at risk for losing muscle, this is why calorie counting and protein are so important and why lifting weights progressively and getting stronger is so damn important.

I am supposed to be on it but my pharmacy put me back on 2.5. I am diabetic, lost 70 lbs, my A1C dropped from 11.5 to 6.8.

What you mean your pharmacy put you back in 2.5mg? What were you on before?

Thank you that’s very helpful. Now only battle to get over is to see if insurance will cover either ozempic or mounjaro since they do not cover the others for weight loss only

Awesome job. Keep it it.

I decided 12 years ago to quit smoking and get in shape. Been lifting 4-5 days per week since.

It blows my mind how many people do nothing for their health. It is your only true wealth.

Ummm... please explain. Pharmacys can't do that. They dispense what your doctor wrote, not what they think you need.

FYI- the online distributors Hims and Hers that I believe started with generic viagra and cialis, is now selling compounded semaglutide for those whose insurance won’t cover the cost.

This is from HIMS

For those of us not in the know, is the $199 shot any different than the $1,899 or $2,500 shot?

Nope. One has a name brand sticker on it and the other is compounded. Likely using peptides from China.
