I'm playing it now and it's a decent game, but not really enjoying the long hikes and constantly being almost overweight all the time

If they do what they did on the OG DD, you'll get port crystals as you progress through the game and multiple playthroughs that you can place and use as custom fast travel locations with a ferrystone. Haven't played the new one yet, so maybe there are more than the very few standard fast travel points in the first game?

Also, after beating the first playthrough on the first game (or part of it, at least), you received an eternal ferrystone that had unlimited uses. Helps out a lot when carefully balancing weight capacity ratios for long exploring treks or xp/ap grinds.

it would be one thing if it was REALLY noticeable if your pawns have it but mine wasnt showing any signs. slept at an inn and boom, harve dead.

It's a mechanic that adds nothing to the game.

"I think this pawn I recruited has Dragonsplague. Oh crap, better cut him loose!"

"I think my pawn has Dragonsplague. Better though him in the water and respawn at a riftstone!"

Finally hit level 22. Nameless Village is THE spot for thieves. I’ve been really enjoying this game and beating the hell out of shite. We just repelled our first dragon, so hopefully no one gets the plague.

Talk me back into buying and trying this game, please?

I was an absolute avid fan of the first title. The combat was fun and fast. There were enough built-in "tricks" that you could easily fake your way through even the toughest boss fights in the entire game. A solid party could take down Death in Bitterblack Isle in 30 seconds with proper preparation.

Now I actually start researching changes made in DD2. I'm like, what in the actual frick? You split Strider into separate classes, thief and archer? Strike one, because Strider coming back was the main thing I looked forward to.

Next, you took away the ability to collect and carry water from healing springs? That was literally the best way to just throw caution to the wind and go on incredibly long xp/ap farming runs. Just have plenty of flasks of healing water that replenished your health beyond the "gray", and plenty of large mushrooms in your inventory, and you were good. Strike two. I need a way to heal to maximum health on the fly without having to stop and camp, or ferrystone back to town to rest at the inn.

And as if that weren't enough, you add in some bull crap disease that only negatively impacts the overall experience? 3 and out. I had enough of that garbage with the Bertullian Pox back when I played EQOA.

The best thing about the original DD besides the variegated and diverse combat system, was that it was truly "souls-lite". There were things that would just crush you even at the highest levels with the best dragon forged equipment, but there were ways to keep your max health full even during protracted fights and long grinds, and almost every enemy had a weakness that could be seriously exploited if you prepared properly. Think Strider/Fivefold Flurry blast arrows + 4 conquerors periapts + plenty of stamina-replenishing items and pawns carrying extra blast arrows for you, and farming Daimon in BBI became simple as long as you just hauled arse past everything else on the way to his sanctuary.

I really want to play this new game and like it, but it looks like I probably need to give it some time for more of a general consensus to be reached instead of dropping another 70$ on a game I may hate. We'll see what's being said by the time I achieve 100% on Rebirth. As of now, not being able to swap at will between bow and daggers from the beginning of DD2 already has me disliking it.

While I enjoy it, it may not be for everyone. Especially for someone with more experience with the series. This is my first DD game. I went in with low expectations, and hoping for mindless fun, and it has delivered. I’m enjoying exploring, grinding, killing monsters, getting gear, etc. The main story has been kind of weak, and apparently, it’s pretty short. There will be quite a few patches coming out; some specifically due to player feedback. I’d wait until it’s on sale.

Thief has been pretty awesome. I can blaze down huge monsters and swarms with relative quickness. I’ve also probably walked about 1000 miles, but I use that time to search for gear and grind out XP/RC.

Appreciate the feedback, good sir!

Based on my studies this far, I'm leaning towards Thief, or possibly Warfarer so that I can still swap between bow and daggers at will like Strider could in the original title. A beefed up Thief definitely looks like a serious powerhouse DD though.

That would mirror the first title, then. The main story was good, albeit very strange and somewhat weak. I haven't looked towards any endgame spoilers, and I won't, but I suspect the devs have continued "the endless chain" theme from the first title. It actually makes subsequent playthroughs kind of fun and rewarding.

I definitely plan to wait. I'm just finishing chapter 11 of Rebirth and plan to platinum that bish before walking away, and it's just so massive that I can clearly see it's going to take at least a second and possibly third playthrough to do so. Frickin game is enormous.

If you like the first game you I can't imagine you wouldn't like this one.

There are items equivalent to the healing spring bottles but easier to manage. (You can even teach your pawns to combine the items as you collect them and do it for you.) There are campsites everywhere that return you to full max health when needed so you don't have to go back to an inn.

The game is not short unless you really rush it or maybe if you use a guide, which I didn't.

I've never had the plague thing get me. I saw an explanation of it right after hiring a pawn and just immediately let that pawn go. I read somewhere that their eyes glow red in the dark if they are infected, but I can't verify that myself.

This is a slight spoiler, but

there's a class that only the Arisen can take that lets you combine all the other classes in whatever way you want if you don't like how the abilities are split out.

Edit: Looks like you already know about that class.

Yeah so I kinda had to bump and resurrect this thread, but...

Started DD2 a couple weeks ago on PS5. I'm still pissed that there's not a Strider (bow + daggers) class outside of trading the ability to do so with Warfarer for incredibly nerfed stats, but just finished my first playthrough as Thief with maester skills and started NG+ last night. Thief is a blast, though there's fun to be had with Warfarer, Magic Archer and Mystic Spearhand. Thief is OP and by far my favorite. The Unmoored World is awesome, though very drab so I only spent a few IRL days there before activating the final beacon and ending it. I'm certainly going to miss Dullahans randomly manifesting right on top of me while I'm battling a Lich or Gorechimera, but I'll get there again. Just need to see some water and green grass again right now.

Not going to post in the main game tag thread because I don't online game, but my PSN ID is SRB-Thrice if anyone wants to friend me and access my pawn for 0 rift crystals. She's high-80s level lifelong Sorcerer with multiple badges and fully upgraded (wyrmfire forged) endgame gear. She has the Malestrom and Meteoron maester skills and 1200ish magic (iirc) stat along with gear to decrease incantation times. She takes down drakes with Meteoron almost singlehandedly.

If anyone is still going strong on this game on PS5 or just getting started, feel free to friend me. I can see myself going well above level 200 before it gets bland.

I didn't quite do everything a player can do on the first playthrough. But close to it. I most definitely did everything that can be done in the Unmoored World and explored every square inch of it. Was carving through plagued drakes like butter by the time I went to NG+. A few weeks time, and about 140 hours in just my first playthrough. Definitely not short, but as you said, you can certainly rush right through it if you choose.

I saw a pawn in the rift with glowing eyes and did not hire her. The patch happened not long after I first started playing so I never had the DP in my party either, yet. I will absolutely confirm the glowing eyes thing though. But after the update the DP seems like a rare occurrence that you might deal with from time to time if unlucky.

I do. I'm addicted. Still wish there was something other than resting, allheal elixers or suicide/wakestone to restore max recoverable health, but I've managed to adapt. Just hoping for some difficult DLC expansions now like they did with BBI in the first title, for some true endgame content that never gets completely easy. Once you're beefed up with good gear and the right augments and skills, you can almost sleepwalk through drake battles.
