She was turned away for violating the dress code.

Just like she'd had been turned away if she had been wearing a Cardi B outfit.

GOOD.
Institutions and social norms exist for a reason. And 16 year olds should never have the ability to disrupt them.

Social media, folks.

but to pick the fight over a suit

The student showed up to the dance where the dress code had been very meticulously conveyed. The school allowed the student to go home and get proper attire. The student declined that offer, yet you sit here and say that the school picked the fight.

I wonder what lenses some of you view life through.

“She was excited. We took a couple pictures,” her mother said.

Biggest piece of bullshite in the entire article. Something tells me the mom took tons of pictures and plastered them all over social media. And now with this article they are getting the attention they were seeking in the first place.

100% chance that the mother contacted the news outlet. The mother and the daughter knew exactly what was going to happen in this situation. Honestly, I really don't believe the story about the student crying later that night.

I mean, rules are rules. But I remember girls going to prom and homecoming in suits and ties in the 90s. Is this really a battle that needs to be fought? Sounds stupid on both sides. Let the kids be a bit rebellious and edgy. The best thing you can do is just show them you don't care.

Ordinarily, I would agree. However, giving an inch to the gay gestapo or leftist cult never ever ends there and will most assuredly lead to another ridiculous demand, then another after that.

School leaders were following the rules given before the event... Someone was looking for attention, and it's not the school.

Let the kid have a good night in an outfit that doesn’t stick out
And next year the 6’4”, 240 lbs. senior linebacker wants to wear a little black dress and heels.

It would be demure with half sleeves so he didn’t “stand out”.

Boys are boys and should dress accordingly.

Girls are girls and should dress accordingly.

she showed up in something ridiculous- sure- but to pick the fight over a suit seems like the school leaders were just as actively looking for attention and affirmation in their own circles Let the kid have a good night in an outfit that doesn’t stick out

At the end of the day it’s a kid in pants and a jacket. We can’t be hypocrites and want freedom but berate this kid for not wearing a dress. HOWEVER this is a private institution and they have rights. It’s still a non story.

The kid has freedom to wear that suit any other time. But the school had a dress code for the dance that was not followed.

If I get invited to a formal event like a Mardi Gras ball I can’t decide to show up in a tuxedo T-shirt because I’d be more comfortable and then complain when they won’t let me in. No different here.
