Hmmm. It sounds like you went before but with some rube. Can you share that story?

It is an amazing site to see.
Gaudi knew that he wouldn’t live to see its completion. So he constructed intricate models as guides. Then, during the Spanish Civil War, the church (and those models) were bombed. From that point on, the fragments had to be put back together as puzzle pieces. But then they got stuck. No more progress as some of the models were to destroyed to be put back together.
Soooooo…
We’re then deployed, especially aerospace engineering programs.
Old boy was a century ahead of his time.
Scope this out if time permits.
It’s actually fairly well done imho.

It is an amazing structure. I hope to go back one day and check it out again. There are other interesting works of Gaudi throughout Barcelona, including a really nice park that overlooks the city and an apartment building, all of which look like they could have been designed by Dr. Seuss.
Barcelona is a very cool place to visit, with Roman ruins and lots of cultural things to see. The hop on/hop off buses are great. The Picasso museum is worth seeing too.

I just watched it. Some amazing things.
The Buddhist sculptor who, while trying to sculpt the biblical stories on the facade and wondering about the original architects intent, converts in the process.
"He teaches me and helps me solve problems. For me he is not dead."
The original architect, knowing that he will never live to see completion. builds very detailed models as guides for posterity.
The communist constantly try to blow up the church during the Spanish Civil War. They Don't succeed. But they do destroy the models which leads to construction ceasing. as architects of the day could not figure out how such a thing could be built.
By happenstance. A young Cambridge Architectural student on a backtracking trip happens onto the site and is given access to the rubble which had been then models. The design was so complex, he couldn't figure it out. Finally. he turned to advanced aeronautical design software to recreate the vision. Then building could resume.
In 1926, a tram driver ran over the architect. Mistaking him for a beggar. he simply rolled him over to the side of the road. climbed back on the tram, and kept driving.
“My client is not in a hurry. God has all the time in the world.”

Modern architecture is so ugly compared to structures like this. We need to go back to creating beautiful buildings instead of blocky monstrosities. It should be part of the Broken Windows Theory.

How many souls will be saved because of that monstrosity? I wonder if Jesus would approve of the opulence.

My mind goes to dark places.
To me it seems like the newest European target for “some people”to try to attack.

It's not built by the Carholic Church. It was/is built by private money.

True ignorance, my friend. It is a tribute to God and maybe the greatest artistic architectural achievement in modern history. You are essentially mocking the cost of The Sistine Chapel. It is in many ways one of the zeniths of human achievement, a testament to the spirit of humanity, and to be enjoyed by all. Not to mention that when people enter probably nearly half weep or are overcome ( even if silently) with the spirit of The Creator. Atheists go here and get it completely. You should consider being less snarky and more open to the rare human victory that La Sagrada Familia is.

So our rich live in opulence but we worship our God in abandoned retail spaces, strip malls and
glorified barns.
