You aren't defining terms here, Jj. These are entitlement programs so stop with the BS.

SS for older people who paid in is not entitlement. They are not asking for money not theirs. It's their money!

That's so backwards it isn't even funny. Tell me how much these people paid in and how much they've drawn from it. Consider how much longer lifespans are nowadays. You used to retire and then die within 6 or 7 years. Now people retire and live an additional 15 - 20 years on average. Drawing benefits they couldn't and didn't pay for. That's the system and it sucks. The system is the problem as is the reluctance of our elected leaders to be honest with the people about its insolvency. Or you know, we can raise the retirement age again and/or taxes but we all know those aren't actual solutions. That's kicking the can down the road.

By the age of 30 they would have paid in roughly $58K. From 31 to 62 they would have paid in $230K

Somebody is adjusting for inflation

No. They did not put in 230k.

if we are to fix SS by 2033, it will require the largest tax increase
... or just provide a reasonable ROI on SS contributions.

Of course, as Uncle Sam is chief beneficiary of SS, increasing ROI to individuals is cross-purposes with the program intent. So that massive tax increase, as you noted, is forthcoming.

They SHOULD,,,,,,,, We have been getting shafted for 30 plus years since Bill Clinton and his little commies change the way the calculated inflation. They do not even add in groceries and housing. When thy said Inflation was 9 percent in 2022, we get a 9 percent increase, the REAL INFLATION was 18-19 percent.

That is the sorry Gov. stealing from SS people.

Suppose you paid notes for 30 years to your mortgage company for your house, only to find out, they never applied a single penny towards your loan repayment, but instead squandered it on other things? Would you be cool with that?

But it really isn’t. You aren’t so much paying into something for your use later in life. You are paying into a fund to be used TODAY by the ELDERLY OF TODAY.

When you reach retirement age, you are not withdrawing money that YOU have paid into your whole life. That money was spent supporting the elderly as you paid it. You are withdrawing the money paid in by the youth today, not your money from yesteryear.

You are paying for the care of elderly folk while you are young in the hopes that the young will be able to pay for your bills when you retire.

It is nothing but a scheme and the whole “you are paying into it so you can pull out what you put in later” is a fricking lie.

He's claiming that the average male earned an average salary of $60,000 for his entire working life. Keep in mind that someone born in 1960 couldn't work until the mid 1970s. With that being said...

Median Personal Income In The US 1974 - 2022

Now tell me how we averaged $60,000 per earner, male or female.

Entitlement spending is sacrosanct. It is the hill American voters die on. I make no distinction between party and I only no of high minded small government people who even think about it philosophically.

One of the pitfalls of universal suffrage. When we let dumb, ignorant, greedy people vote themselves free stuff, we have a problem.

Got some bad news for you. It stopped being your money when the government took it. And the government doesn’t have it to give back to you. they’ve already spent it and replaced it with government IOUs.

The government doesn’t have money for anything, but that doesn’t stop them from printing more.

Why is it hard to understand why people want a nominal return on the money they were forced to set aside. Altruism aside, it’s completely normal to desire what you feel you’ve earned

Some poll is only going to show what people want when asked, it doesn’t forecast the reality of what happens if they don’t get it. That’s why it’s such a complicated situation that will require a lot of nuance
