46. I started buying minor league baseball hats and expensive bourbons I'll never open, but just look at.

Now I'm trying to figure out a plan to retire in four years an disappear into the woods.

Not in the sense of buying expensive toys, but in terms of work I had a mid life crisis in my mid 40s when I needed to decide if I was going to open my own firm or accept an offer to manage the local office of an out of state firm. Opening my own firm was going to be stressful and time consuming, with no guarantee of success. The other job would not likely be as lucrative but would be easy and secure with minimal corporate BS to deal with (but still some). I value family over vocational success. I don't need to be the sole, or even primary, breadwinner in my family, so I chose the less stressful job.

Its your daily bitching about everything while making a million a year. No amount of money can apparently fix your problems.

You should just donate it all to charity or burn it

I turned 46 earlier in the year and have not had this urge yet.

I did the same at about that age, quite a few of my frat bros from LSU are lawyers/judges, they talked me off of that ledge pretty quickly

If I get in, I am going to law school. No question about it. My company is paying for this so no cost to me.

I’m not exactly sure what constitutes a mid-life crisis so I guess I’m okay.

Dawned on me at 41 that leadership at work no longer valued what I brought to the table. 2 years later finished my degree, getting an MBA, sold the big house and got something smaller. Almost debt free. Looking for a new path in my career. Got a business idea I'm working on.

Agreed. Money wouldn’t solve all of my problems, but it would probably, at least indirectly, almost instantly solve 95% of them while making that last 5% WAY easier.

Tbh, I solved half my problems just by having a reasonably stable income (not even great, just steady) for most of the last 18 month.

when I turned 32 I hit a pretty big goal/milestone and I treated myself with a fancy(for me,) new sports car, I was single, no debt, I started dating a girl, briefly, that was 10 years younger, she asked me if the car was my mid life crisis toy

Just because I am not paying for this doesn't mean that I don't have to go to class, study, and commit myself to this for 4 years. Then when done prepare for and pass the Bar exam.

not what I meant, going to law school on a whim would be an example of a mid life crisis, being company directed and funded is not

Fair enough. This comes after them trying to get me to do this for the last 10 years I finally said yes I will do this. I am now an empty nester and looking for something to do.

I'm glad now that I didn't do it, it sure seemed appealing at the time, your scenario is different and I'd do it in a heartbeat, good luck and have fun

I'd say early 40s somewhat. Not sure if mid life crisis or not, probably more burnout. Definite burnout from work and turned into depression. I'm better now but it was rough for a couple years.

I'm right there with you.

I think you do anything long enough and it just gets old. Sure, I could change jobs or something maybe, but I have a pretty sweet setup now, and I'd be doing something similar at the new one anyway.

I've done this type of work for 25 years, so it's sort of all I know how to do that would pay me enough to maintain my lifestyle.
