3 consecutive NCAA Final Fours, 1982, 1983, and 1984.....

No National Title, 2 runner-ups.

Hakeem the Dream, Clyde the Glide....HOFers, one Dream Team, the other NBA MVP.

I mean, they were ranked #1 two years running.....and couldn't get a ring. Still quite shocking in retrospect.

Thank goodness for Clutch City a decade later.

Also, NC State doesn't have a prayer against the Coogs with a shot clock.

Are we talking one season or an era?

For one season the 18-0 Patriots and 1991 UNLV have to be up there. But that UNLV team won it all the year before and the Patriots ring collection speaks for itself.

Another that came to mind were those John Robinson USC teams. They split a title in 1978 but overall they kind of shite the bed considering how much talent they had.

Boston Bruins last year
1990-91 UNLV

Given their extreme hype, the Miami Heat team with Lebron, Wade, and Bosh that lost to Nowitzki was an all-timer.

Fab 5 didn't even win a Big Ten title. Fraud 5 is more like it--a legacy of winning absolutely nothing.

I remember watching a USC/ UCLA game during the Robinson era where on paper UCLA supposedly had no chance.......someone didn't tell UCLA, but apparently did tell USC and they played like shite. I think USC was 10-0 going into the game.

Actually still cannot understand how the 98 Vikings lost to the Falcons. Gary Anderson gets a lot of flack, but they were a huge favorite.

73-9 warriors blew a 3-1 finals lead
65 win Bruins blew a 3-1 lead in the first round
62 win Lightning got swept in the first round

Plenty of choices in football.

15-1 and done Packers lose in the divisional round
16-0 Pats "we're only gonna score 17 points?" lose the SB only scoring 14 points
15-1 Vikings lose on Gary Anderson's only missed FG of the season
15-1 Panthers MVP Cam Newton stripped twice by Von Miller, lose to the corpse of Peyton Manning
15-1 Steelers get 41 hung on them by the Pats in AFC CG

I took the question to be who was a great squad that under-achieved. They played for a national championship but failed.

That Randy Moss Hail Mary is approximately a quarter of an inch from being the most ridiculous thing Randy Moss ever did. Think about that. Dude blew past a prevent defender lined up 20 yards off of him.

The pass was more insane than Moss running past the two DBs. Brady threw that ball nearly 70 yards in the air!

Both 2011 LSU and John Robinson himself were avenged by the 2019 team because John was on staff as an analyst
