The lynch mob BLM riots in 2020 no doubt played a huge factor in convicting Chauvin of charges higher than just involuntary manslaughter. It allowed the DA to roll the dice on the more serious charges being brought because he knew he would get a conviction. You had Maxine Waters calling for BLM to get more confrontational in order to convict Derek Chauvin. And it worked.
