Isn’t this nation a nation of immigrants and their descendants? I get that immigrants and refugees may be different by definition, but how many immigrants came to America to escape poverty, religious oppression, war, etc.?

I knew my post would not be popular, but I meant what I said. Unless you are Native American, your ancestors came from somewhere else. Why shouldn’t this country take in people that are suffering under the yoke of Israel?

“Give me your tired, your poor, your hungry, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free”. I guess they should just scrape that off the Statue of Liberty right?

As a real answer:

a) We don't vet. We've expanded the definition of refugee to include anyone who can get here and complain about where they're from, which is like 90% of the world. We have increasing security lapses and nobody (on the political side that is advocating for this) cares about it at all. They're prioritizing the safety and well-being of people who aren't citizens over citizens which entirely defeats the purpose of having a nation.

b) We don't expect/require assimilation. Candidly, if you carefully vetted a few thousand Palestinian refugee families who wanted nothing more in life than to live in the relative peace and security of America and were more than happy to abide by our norms and customs as a tiny price to pay for what they're being given, I'd support it in a vacuum. But we don't expect that. Our culture promotes the idea that everywhere else is better than here in the most absurdly ludicrous fashion. It's complete insanity to simultaneously trash the west in the context of celebrating people who are fleeing in order to avail themselves of the left. It's the type of stuff only bored, mostly white, overly-comfortable imbeciles could come up with.
