Tax refund season is a big reason. I tried to sell my car to a used dealership in December a few years ago, and they barely offered me any money for it. "That's a tax car" he said, meaning to wait until closer to April when people have their tax refunds. He was absolutely right. I put it on FB marketplace and had several offers within minutes. It was a little sketchy, but I met the buyer at a well lit hospital parking garage to inspect the vehicle and then did the transaction at a title shop.

Pro tip: do NOT skip out on the title shop and assume the buyer will do it. My late father got a stack of red light speeding tickets for several months from the guy who bought his car.
